A Godly legacy

2 Chro 20:32 -  He followed the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD. 1 Kings 16:30 -  Ahab son of Omri did more  evil in the eyes of the  Lord  than any of those before him.   Many people don't often think what will happen after they leave the world. What kind of impact of legacy they will leave behind. For me there are two important issues that matters most if I should be called Home. Will my wife be taken care off? Will my children appreciate the legacy I leave behind? There are many pastors I know who are so engaged in the ministry, that they neglect their own family.  Many times they don't know that their kids are wayward or their wives are hurting inside. Like this Pastor whom I met recently. Travels everywhere, extremely busy in serving God, but not aware of the problems his own kids are facing and serious problems. And this seems to be the problem with many pastors and Christians. We are so involve

Reena is back home.

Image
Reena is finally back home after a nerve recking experience in the hospital. The final culture back back today and it was negative as well. Medical science is still not able to explain what caused her to be unconscious for three days but the leaning is towards a viral infection of the nervous system. Last week this time she was lying unconscious in the ICU of KTP Hospital. Today she is discharged and a living testimony of the miraculous healing power of our Lord Jesus Christ. Samba was the first to greet her when she arrived home. What a reunion. he just leaped for joy. Thanks to all who prayed, encouraged and stood by us during this trying time. Praise God for PEC. Members wept and prayed and displayed such camaraderie,  which I have not seen before.  God is good. He is still on the throne. He remembers His own.  Glory to God alone.  The following Psalm 46 is a reinforcement of our experience during the last one week.  God is our refuge  and strength,      an

When faith is tested, use the Shield of faith

Eph 6:16 -  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. As I take stock of the recent change of events, I notice a trend: In Aug, dangerous mishaps in the mission trip to Myanmar. In Sep, dangerous situations in Sikkim and threatened by religious fanatics in Charttisgarh. Last week in Myanmar, encountered demonic activities in the villages; one of our team members, escaped bomb blast in a supermarket and we were out of Shan state before the violent clashes that killed many took place. This week, Reena's near death incident.    I came to the conclusion that this is part of the warfare we are in, with the powers of darkness.
Eph 6:2 -  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
These are the fiery darts of the enemy tryi

When faith is rewarded - 2

This morning we met Reena. She was back to her normal self. Praise God for His healing. We met  doctors too. They confirmed that all the tests have been negative and they concluded that it is possibly some viral infection of the brain but she looks good so far.  Yesterday morning when we brought Reena to the A&E, the doctors said that Reena was critically ill. She was not responding and the doctors were very concerned. Today she is in her normal self, though very tired and weak. Reena will have to stay in the hospital for another few more days for observation, before she can be discharged.  Only God could have done this miracle. Hallelujah. Over the last few days, we have been heartened by the outpouring of prayers, support and care by many people all over the world, especially from members of PEC Singapore. The whole church came together in this challenging time and stood by us as family. The church is the body of Christ. We felt, experienced and saw its true mean

When faith is rewarded

God heard the cries and prayers of so many people around the globe. About 4PM today the doctors updated us that all the tests came in negative and they are still not able to isolate the cause. She was still unconscious in the ICU Then the breakthrough came. About 5PM, some of our friends from church were visiting Reena. Reena suddenly opened her yes and spoke and her first words were, "Where is my mother". Hallelujah. This was a miracle indeed. From then on she was able to recognize all the visitors and reply with short answers. She was still drowsy but I guess that's the effect of the medication. Then we went to see Reena. Praise God, all of a sudden she was wide awake and was able to recognize us in her room.  She was smiling when Jeya cracked a joke and was able to follow simple instructions. This was very good progress and I quickly sent a message to update the various chat groups that were praying for her. Pray for full recovery. We pray that Reena

When faith is tested to its limit - 2

I am really thankful and praise God for the overwhelming outpouring of prayers, love and concern from PEC and friends all over the world. It is humbling and very encouraging.  Yesterday morning was 24 hrs after Reena was admitted. When we talked with the doctors, they seemed very negative. She has not shown any improvement and if she does not show any kind of improvement in the next 24 hrs, her brain might sustain permanent damage. That shook my faith a bit. I asked God, "What are you trying to say to me". NO ANSWER. Felt like Abraham taking Isaac up to the mountain. No dad should even have that kind of a feeling. But I guess I was human. Went for a church staff meeting around lunch time and back to the hospital. It was really painful to see Reena. But at least she was opening her eyes and trying to sit up. That was a good sign but the doctors report was still negative. The scriptures quotes from friends really strengthen me. Many called and texted words of a

When faith is tested to its limit

What a day it was. Our second daughter Reena was found unconscious in her room at about 5am. I was at work and Jeya was awakened by the incessant barks of Samba, our pet-dog from Reena's room. Usually Jeya would have changed and gone to work but because of Simba's baking, she went into Reena's room to check and to her shock, she found Reena in an unconscious state. With Jonathan's help, an ambulance was summoned and she was straight away admit to the ICU ward. On Sunday Renna appeared ok in church. In fact she drove us back home. In the evening she complained of body aches and a fever. She took some medication and went to bed. Not sure what triggered this state of unconsciousness.  After some tests, doctors think it could be a viral infection of the nervous system, Reena is still not responding but we believe she will recover soon. Many people are praying for her. On Sunday, Pst Robert Lum from Eternal Life Assembly shared on "Why bad things happen

Another journey home

Bro Patrick and I have checked in and are waiting for the flight back home. Bro George is still back in MTC. He has got two days of teaching with the Church Planters and Bible School Students. Looking back it has been a good trip. For Bro George and Bro Patrick, this is their first trip to Myanmar and first on a mission journey in Myanmar. It has been an eye opener for both of them. I believe that God has been ministering to them about their future involvement in missions. For me it has been fulfilling and  enriching. Seeing the work of the church planters and the children's home has humbled me and I  simply stand amazed in His presence. But for now its time to get back home, meet the only one who really cares  for me.

Arrived Yangon, 4 hrs a delay

Image
We arrived Yangon after a long 11 hrs ride. Fortunately the bus was comfortable. We praised God for His protection and headed to Swer Pu Zun for a nice breakfast. This is one of the perks of coming to Myanmar on a mission trip. A quiet garden with captivating landscape and with good and  cheap food. Yet to see such a cozy place like this in Singapore. George and Patrick enjoyed the ambiance and the service. We arrived MTC at about 8 am and it was nice to meet old friends again. Our next program was the visit to San Hin Mi village in the outskirts of Thanlyn. About 20 adults and 15 children gathered for the meeting. Bro Patrick Lim shared a moving testimony about his life and how God helped him in his lowest moments in life. The village people were able to relate very much to his testimony. Many people responded to the altar call. Church planters and their families Much humbled by the faith of these simple people who in spite  of their many difficulties continue to trust

Update on trip to Myanmar

Image
The whole of yesterday was spent in travelling. We covered more than 1300 km from That Yin to Mandalay. The roads were narrow and bumpy with three big sized men squeezed at the back.  It was really exhausting but no one complained. But the landscape was refreshing . Green vegetation, mountains and valleys all along the way. We reached Mandalay about 5pm, after being on the road for 10 hrs. That night after dinner I felt a slight fever coming up and my throat was getting sore. Did not have a good sleep and  my throat hurt real bad. Never felt like this before. At 5 am I had to run to the toilet and it was diarrhea all the way. I guess it was the dinner last night. Today we drove about 3 hrs to visit our Church planter's work in Kwing Thong Se, in Mandalay Division. You can imagine how I had to control my stomach urges. But thank God I had to use the toilet only once along the way. God was indeed kind. A group of about 20 people gathered in a  small eating house for the

Arrived Thant Yan, Myanmar

Image
We departed Yangon yesterday at about 4:20pm. The journey was long but manageable. Today 6am we stopped at a place for breakfast. It was cold up in the mountains. Probably about 15 degrees Celsius. A hot bowl of noodles was all that was needed to keep warm. We finally arrived Lasio at 8:30am after travelling for about 16 hrs on the road. From there we hired s cab and travelled another 4 hrs, the drive through the mountains was pleasant and breathtaking. We finally arrived at our destinations at 1:30pm. Finally got to get a good shower and change our clothes and on a soft bed. Later in the evening we visited the Shadrach Home. This is a new beginning. PEC is adopting this Home, administered by one of the CPs trained in Yangon. She is Sis Khaw Shin, together with a  helper Martha runs this Home for the underprivileged children. The kids were so well disciplined. They sang  from the bottom of their hearts and  listened attentively to the stores told by Bro Patrick and  Br

Trip to Myanmar

Image
Sitting at Changi Airport together with George and Patrick, both first time to Myanmar. Looking forward to a great trip. My heart is full this morning with the mercies of the Lord. The flight on Jetstsr was uneventful and we thank God for His journey mercies. Pst John Phongshah was at the airport to greet us as usual. Our next destination was to Northern Shan state and we were booked on a bus for 4:30 departure. Since we had a bit of time Pst John took us on a short tour of Yangon as this was the first time the other team members are coming to Myanmar. We had lunch at "Golden Duck", something that one of Patrick's friend asked us to try. Well we did but the price was not so friendly. Almost Singspor price. I hd eaten here before but looks like inflation has caught up. We arrived well on time at the bus station, mentally preparing ourselves for the long 16 hrs drive to Lasio. From there we will catch a cab to That Yin, where PEC Shadrach Home is located.

Baptism after two years

Image
What a day of rejoicing it was. Can't remember when was the last time I felt such join my spirit.  Baptism service in PEC after a dearth of two years. I was reminded of the words of Psalms 9:9-10 - the Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble Those who know your name trust in you for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Bro Dravindran, Bro Malcolm, Bro Inbaraj and Sis Bella Four people took the step of water baptism at the Sembawang Park this afternoon. To witness the baptism of Bro John Inbaraj was in itself a miracle. Those who journeyed with me will know why. Enough said.  Today was another reminder of God's faithfulness. I rejoiced in my spirit this afternoon. I witnessed with my eyes the amazing thing God is doing. It was another milestone, another generation on the rise. I was overwhelmed by the crowd that turned up at the beach to witness this historic moment, the spirit of ones that prevai
