Its Chrstmas

We had a wonderful Christmas service today. The church was packed to overflowing, in spite of the fact that a number of families were away on holiday. Many new people came. We had a number of items and for the first time,  the service was run mostly by youths, a sign of new things to come. It was a joy to see Jonathan leading the Christmas worship with Sidd interpreting in Tamil. Alvin did well being the MC with Ruben and will soon make a good Pastor. I shared the Word based on John 1:14 - The Word became flesh. The message had the following salient points: The fulfilment of the Prophetic  Word. The experience of the Living Word The effect of the Transforming Word The impact of the Glorified Word The eternity of the Majestic Word Many thought PEC would not see this Christmas, but we did. A number of them said that it was a wonderful service, something that was so different from the many years in PEC. I can say the youths in PEC are ready to soar. We all break new

If you are hurting......

He knows my pain, every tear and sorrow.  My whispers and fears about the uncertain tomorrows.  Whilst there maybe no immediate answers or light for the dark and mysterious road;  One thing is sure, the one who designed eternity is also the one who holds my hand.  So I gently slide in His bosom, there my destiny is secured for sure.

Reflections

December has been a busy month for all of us in PEC. Two big events, one with the migrant workers on 5 Dec and the other evangelistic meeting on 12 Dec were all full of excitement. We saw many new contacts.  Everything and everyone worked like a clock and in harmony. And they all did it without murmuring or complaining. There were squabs, but healthy ones that pushes each other to do the task better. In fact the last six months has seen many new beginnings. Last three days the youths have been out carolling and bring goodwill and cheer to people in the shopping centre and homes.  Very few people believed that we will exist till today. In fact last night at the prayer meeting, one sister asked if I ever imagined if we would still be here in Dec? I shook my head. Even our own people were standing by sidelines to see if we will be alive till Dec to make their next move. Can't blame them or anyone. The God who searches the hearts knows the truth for sure.  Some would have pr

Christmas Cheer at the Shopping Centre

Image
Today our PEC youths went to Sembawang Shopping Centre to sing Christmas carols and distribute gifts to shoppers. This is the first time our youths are doing this and we thank God for the opportunity. Its a joy to see our youths going out with boldness to profess their faith in Jesus. The opportunity also allowed us to invite people to our church. This is history in the making. Carpe diem. To God be the Glory

Remembering the faithful

IN REMEMBRANCE OF  MR ROBERT PERIASAMY Jan 1930 – 17 Dec 2009 Six years have gone by. My Dad, he loved the Lord, served Him faithfully and finished his race victoriously. Proud to be his son. We cherish the memories. We miss him but not for long. 2 Cor 5:17 How times flies. Its the 6th anniversary of my father's passing. Everyone can have a child, but not  every can be a father. My Dad was. With his limited education, he brought up the family to hat we are today.  But the greatest tribute that can be given to him was that he was truly a born again christian . Not just in words, but in all totality. He never missed his quiet time, he never missed church and he never stopped loving the Lord.  He would have been 85 today. Happy birthday Dad. Thank you for setting the right examples for us. This morning I was by the beach where my Dad's bones were laid to rest. On the background you see Johore's coast. Life is a journey. Without God its wasted. Tod

PEC youths go carolling.

Today our PEC youths went out to bring good cheer to some of our members' homes. It so good to see our youths engaged and moving with a passion during this season of giving.  So glad they visited Bro Tangavelu's home. I was told he has been waiting since morning for them. One of our pioneers, Bro Tangevelu has been very weak lately with many complications. The visit brought great joy to him. Brings back many memories. Praise God for all that He is doing

Visit to my cousin's house

Image
Another first this year. Visited my cousin Indra's home for the first time, together with the youths from PEC. The youths were there to celebrated Christmas and it was also happened to be my niece Shekinah's birthday. They have a lovely home. The youths had a wonderful time. My three nieces have settled comfortably in PEC. They blended well with the other youths. It was my honour to pray for Shekinah on her 16th birthday. I had to leave early to work. Coincidently Vasantham Central was there to capture how Singapore Indians celebrate Christmas. Not sure when it will be aired.  As I reflect back, I thank God for giving us the opportunity to catch up with our nieces and to see the next generation on fire for God. That will be Jeya's and my mandate  to see that they are on the right road of service for the Lord. We praise God for all the opportunities that are coming our way.

Meeting with a special person - Apostle Naomi Dowdy

This evening my wife and I had the privilege of meeting Apostle Naomi  Dowdy for dinner. This was specially arranged by Dr and Mrs Lim, people who cared for PEC. For those of you, not familiar with Apostle Naomi, she is the founder of Trinity Christian Centre in Singapore. We really had a good time. In spite of all her achievements in God's kingdom, she was humble objective, kingdom focused and down to earth. She gave some very useful insights on how to move forward for 2016. She was very sharp, witty and "has been in this business for too long". Advise coming from a person of her stature is certainly worth listening and following.  We had to leave early because of work. It was time well spent and one that will linger in our memories for some time to come. Praise God for godly people.

Christmas celebrations start early at PEC

Image
Today we celebrated Christmas event, with a focus on evangelism. A lot of planning, effort and prayer by almost every sector of the church has been put into this event. A total of 163 turned up for the event. This is the first time we have had so many people for a Christmas program. Many new faces. There was a drama item by the Sunday School, testimonies and choir item by the challengers. The whole event went on smoothly. Friends of mine from another church, who came for the event, said that they were impressed by the unity of the leadership and the remarkable cooperation by the members. Bro Samuel shared a short gospel message.  It was so moving to see everyone in the church working together in unity. There were no by-standers. As one sister put it, "Great labour of help by brothers and Sisters in Christ." Today was proof, that PEC members can be united and work together for the glory of God. It was a sight to behold. Its only because of Jesus and nothing else

Christmas Program at the Migrant Lodge

Image
Last night our church hosted a Christmas program at the Migrant Dormitory. We have been conducting English classes for the Indian migrant workers and the program had attracted some students. It was the first time we were doing this and the response was outstanding. About 60 Indian migrant workers attended the function and about 40 guests from PEC and some sponsors also attended the event. There were songs, games and the gospel message was shared. It was a great effort by our Tamil congregation. A lot of hard work, coordination and great Christian unity. We praise God that we were able to achieve this, in spite of all odds. The sponsors who came were impressed to see the work. Now we await for the response of these Indian workers to the gospel. Its the Holy Spirit who convicts. Some have been already coming to church. Praise God. Next year we start again for another batch and possibly to another lodge as well. All glory to God for the many open doors to do evang

Fruitful trip to Yangon, Myanmar

Image
The trip went well. Most of the participants have a good potential to plant churches in the future and they all showed eagerness in wanting to dodo. On Thursday evening, we visited a village, mostly of Indian origin. Our church planter is working in that village. They were very poor and the living conditions were appalling. Sometimes its difficult for them to have three meals a day. No electricity, no toilets and no clean water.  About 30 adults and ten children gathered for the service. Bro Uthi shared the Word and I concluded. At the end we prayed for them and we realised how demonic the whole village was. Many were under the bondage of the evil one. Only Jesus can set them free. On Friday night we had dinner with Celia, a Filipino missionary working in Yangon. I met Celia  at a HI National Seminar in KL. Since God had placed a desire for her to work in Myanmar, I connected her with Pst John Phonshar. She found her niche and now she helps in the Bible School in the

Bro Uthi took lessons in Goal Setting, wile I taught on Leadership using the EQUIP tools.  There are 14 participants in the group. Most of them were responsive in the class with good participation. We are praying that they will be equipped to plant churches  all over Myanmar. All glory to God

Be still

November has almost come to an end. This is the first Sunday in the last six months I am working, I think. Yes I have missed some Sundays because of overseas mission trips. But today, it is work. Circumstances had forced me to juggle work with more overriding demands. I really thank God for my colleagues who have been extremely kind and accommodating my shift changes.  But today gave me some time from hectic Sunday  schedules and to ruminate. As I sit in the office and reflect on what has transpired over the last trying months, I am reminded of the song “Be still”, especially the lyrics: When the oceans rise And the thunders roar I Will soar with You Above the storm Father You are King Over the flood And I will be still And know You are God Those words resonate with the scriptures, where David wrote in Psalms 46:10 - “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted   among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” But the issue is not G

Night to honour Israel

Image
Last night Jeya and I attended a function at Mandarin Orchard  Ballroom to honour the nation of Israel. Almost a thousand guests, both Christians and Israelis attended the function. It was organised by Cornerstone Community Church.  The guest of honour was the Israeli Ambassador to Singapore and the PM of Israel appeared on a short recorded speech. The event noted the many years of partnership between Israel and Singapore and the influence of Israel in Singapore's history was reminisced. The fist CM of Singapore was aJew, MR David Marshall.  It was also a night where we fought up with people who supported us in our missions, James and his wife Marilyn,Dr Lim and Doreen and some others.  Gen 12:3 -  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

Keeping the unity - Its hard work people

Eph 4:3 -  Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Last week had been quite challenging. In the midst of the excitement to do our best for the coming key events, the devil unwittingly and without any suspicion, starting sowing seeds of discord and this too amongst good friends. Small and trivial matters suddenly become points of contention. Suddenly programs begin to disintegrate, excitement begins to waver and anger shoots rocket high. When everything was moving forward, all of a sudden something happens that disrupt the momentum.  On the part of the leadership, its frustrating and even worrying. Why this all of a sudden? Have we done something wrong? We had to grapple with questions like these. While on the surface it appears to be a problem with inter-personal skills and poor cooperation but on close scrutiny one can perceive the finger prints of the elusive enemy at even turn.  The only thing that can be done is to go to the L
