Smita's not well

Image
Smita, Manisha, Kumar It was with a sadness that we learnt last week that my Sister-in-law, Smita Kumar was diagnosed with two tumours in her brain. Subsequent  tests revealed that the cancer cells may have started from the colon and spread to the other areas. At the time of this writing, tests are still being done to confirm the preliminary findings..I have been speaking with Smita almost everyday since we heart the news. She sound alight and happy that many people all over the world  are praying for her.  My wife and I are due to leave Singapore for the US on Monday to visit Smita and our niece Manisha.  I remember it was around the same time in 2011 when we received news of my brother's bout with liver cancer. And three years prior my father also succumbed to the dreadful disease. All these reminded me of our fallen state and that we are still in the flesh. A friended reminded me that nothing is in our hands. "Be thankful to God for each day you have".

Trip to Metro Manila and Baguio Philippines : 14-20 Nov 14

Praise God for this opportunity to go to the Philippines again. I was invited to Metro Manila by Pst Fernando and his wife Lorna to minister in their church program. I met Pst Fernando and his wife at the HI National Seminar in Klang in Jun this year. I also took the opportunity to conduct a two day Leadership program in Baguio, which was arranged by Sis Evelyn and Sis Joyce.  I arrived at Manila at about 4.00 AM and Pst Fernando and his church  team were at the airport to receive me. Pst Fernando and his wife Lorna were excellent hosts. I was particularly moved by their humility and passion for the Lord. A man with great vision and energy. Very down to earth and very focused. He was so close to his youths that all of them call him "Dad", even though he is relatively young. They simply love him. Lorna is always joyfully and extremely kind. With Janna at UM They both have a 15-year old daughter Janna who is sweet and intelligent. Praise God for such a wonderfu

Another decorated Hero passes on to Glory

This week the Christian world was shocked by the death of Dr Myles Munroe and his wife in a tragic air crash. The facebook was full of condolences and tribute to this great couple. Unfortunately I have not heard about them till now.  So I looked up the youtube to find out more about this man. In a short search I found great treasures in his messages. His key message was to get people to find out the purpose for their lives. Some quotes: God is more concerned about your purpose than about your plans The reason for life is to find out God's purpose and to fulfill it. Psalms 103:7 - The people who know God intimately, know His ways, those who know his casually see His acts. The reason why we pray: God is as sovereign as His Word, God is limited by His Word, God will never violate His Word. Prayer was created by the limitations of God's Word.  The priority of Jesus was not ministry but prayer There are so many things to learn from this man.He has left a great legacy

Spiritual Leadership is about influence

John Maxwell said that a leader without followers is only taking a walk in the park. A leader must have followers. But why do people follow the leader? Spiritual leadership is different form secular leadership. In the secular world, most often people listen to you or follow you becasue of position or job requirements. The subordinates have no choice. Otherwise they lose their jobs. Especially so in the uniformed groups. You may hate your boss but you better listen to him if you need your income. Such positional leadership can also work in the spiritual atmosphere but that would mean a failure on the part of the leader. People are forced to listen or follow you. The result often is disastrous. No communication or limited communication, harboring of hurts, guilt and silent resistance. Growth is retarded and people are not happy. In his servant leadership, our Lord Jesus taught us that leadership is all about influencing others. In Mat 5:13-16, Jesus taught the disciples to be
