Christmas service in Salem Chapel

Image
This morning I had the privilege to share the Word at Salem Chapel, Singapore. The had organised a Christmas Evangelistic Service to share the gospel with pre-believers. I shared the gospel message from Luke 2:8-15. I covered the following truths about the Proclamation made by the angels. The Recipient of the Proclamation -  Shepherds (most unworthy) The Reason for the Proclamation - Salvation (He came to die for our sins) The Result of the Proclamation -  Serenity (peace) The Ramification of the Proclamation - Souls (they told others) It was also a time to meet friends who shared the same passion for missions.  Thanking God for the opportunity.

Christmas celebration in PEC NE India

Image
The following report was submitted by Bishop Samuel Sharma, PEC Coordinator from NE India.  On 23rd December  2023, we invited all the village people along with the sewing ladies and Sunday school children at PEC campus Dalsingpara. The crowd was beyond our expectations.  More than 400 people attended and 360 were hindu and buddhist only.  ❤️ During the celebration, the hindu children and women danced and celebrated Jesus which never happened before in the history of that village.  There was also a song item presented by the ladies who attend our sewing class programs. They are still pre-beleivers. ( This is a very effect way to built rapport with the community who had been very hostile to Christianity. Because of this program, we are now welcomed into the nearby villages.) Most importantly all the people heard about the good news of the birth of our Lord and saviour.  We also distributed 50 warm blankets for the elderly people who were 70 years and above. Gifts for children are given

He saved the best for the last

I lost count of how how many trips I had made in this year. I had just completed my last overseas assignment for this year and now in  transit  in KL. My flight home is just around midnight. Penning my thoughts as I wait for my  departure to Singapore. I must say that this is one of the best trips I have done. Bishop Ezra, Senior Pastor of Elim Kiros Church in Berastagi, Medan, invited me for their Christmas program. He said this is the first time he is inviting a visiting speaker for His Christmas celebration. I was humbled. Last night they had a wonderful Christmas program. About 700 people attended the celebration. The main hall was filled to overflowing and people gathered outside and in the dining area. People from differnt parts of Medan and Beragtagi, attended the celebration. There was even a representative from the Berastagi government. The program was well coordinated and executed.  12 year old Naomi opened the celebrations with a beautiful rendition of "Your name is Hol

Christmas celebrations in Odisha.

Bishop Anjan provided the  following   update on their Christmas celebration in  Odisha.  "About  600 believers attended the programs. By the grace of God and the leadership provided by PEC Singapore, there are more than 6000 believers in PEC churches in Odisha. Not all could attend because of the distance and the cold weather. It's also harvest time and many have to work in the fields.  On 16th Dec evening, PEC youth & Sunday school children had cultural program.  Children participated in dance, special  songs , memory verse, quiz and many more exciting program. On 17th Dec morning, PEC families gathered together for Sunday service. It was a wonderful time of worship and  praise  and listening to the Word of God. And in the evening we celebrated Christmas with a lively program.  It was really a beautiful & blessed time.  PEC Odisha is indeed thankful to PEC Singapore for their leadership, vision and passion to reach the unreached in India, especially India. Shepherds' Christmas withTamil Nadu CPs

Image
It was indeed my honour to be part of the celebrations with our church planters in Tamil Nadu. I am indeed grateful to God for enlarging our territory to reach many unreached villages in many states in India. Bishop Thomas and his team are a good example of what God can do with servants who are committed and faithful to His calling. God can use anyone. The work in Tamil Nadu is a testament of God's faithfulness and the faithfulness of His servants. I am glad for this opportunity to be part of the great work God is doing. To God be the glory.

Shepherds' Christmas at Rasoolpura

Image
Today we celebrated pre-Christmas with our church planters in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This is an annual event that we host in Rasoolpura. About 50 church planters attend this celebration. It was good to see them. Some travelled long distance to come over here.  I shared the Word. It was indeed a blessing. I am indeed thankful to the Lord for Bishop Nehemiah and his team who have been instrumental in reaching thousands of villages in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. God is indeed God.  We started our serious mission work in the then Andhra Pradesh, in 2006. For here it has grown to so many states in India and six countries. This can only be of the Lord. All glory to God.

PEC's 204th church dedication

Image
This morning after a hearty breakfast at Shadrach Home. We departed for a church dedication in Darashing, Rayagada. It took us about 1 1/2 hrs to reach the village. My American friend, Bro Dustin remakes that this in "the end of the world". It was so remote and mountainous. Sparse villages scattered in the forest. Narrow dirt tracks and mud houses in most places.  As we entered the village, every family came out of their homes to greet us with "Prasie the Lord". I asked Bishop Anjan what is happening. Bishop said that every family in this village has accepted the Lord. You can imagine my joy. Every family. The church planter here Pst Sukru, is a young man of 23 years old. After his training in our church planters' training centre, he settled here to share the gospel. First his family came to Christ and slowly one after another turned to the Lord. This is indeed amazing. We dedicated PEC's 204th church building. About 150 people came for the church dedication

Short trip to Odisha

Image
It was a short "educational trip" for two of my friends from the US to see the work God is doing in this part of the world. Just two days before our departure there was a cyclone that hit Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Many places were flooded and some lives were lost. Vizag airport was closed the day before and it was raining in Odisha. Thank God the airport opened the day of our departure. The weather was gloomy, with light rains We arrived well on time last night  about 7:30PM in Vizag. There was no problems with the immigrations and customs. Our driver was waiting for us and it was along 5.5 hrs drive to Bissamcuttack, Rayagada in Odisha. We arrived at our motel this morning at 2.30AM. Couldn't sleep along the way as one of my visitors was snoring so loud as though a training was passing by. 🤣 Slept  for three hours.  We were up for breakfast at Bishop Anjan's place at about 7:30AM. The weather was so pleasant. Thank you Jesus.  It was a joy to meet Bishop's

New every morning

Image
This beautiful sunrise was taken at 7AM from my balcony. Sometimes we take for granted or overlook some of the finer things in life. God's creation never fails to amaze me, like this awesome creation in the picture.  It reminds me of God's  continuous grace and mercy in our lives. Just like the writer in Lamentations 3:22-23 says: Because of the   Lord ’s great love   we are not consumed,  for his compassions never fail;  They are new every morning;  Great is your faithfulness . Just like the sun rises everyday without fail, God's compassion on His people are new every  morning. He is a faithful God. God's love preserves us. God's compassion renews us. God's  faithfulness leads us.

Flabbergasted and disappointed

Image
On 22 Nov, my flight to New Delhi was in the afternoon, In the morning I asked my co-worker Dr Mike Ong, if I could get some roses for my wife. (It was my usual practise to get her, her favourite colours whenever I go to a new place. Not easy as you have hand carry, with many staring. Some even had the audacity to say, "Oh for your girl friend" 🤦🏽‍♂️ ). Mike looked surprised and and said "its not cheap here". " I need a peace offering bro", I retorted sheepishly.  🤣 Mike said he knew some florist about 30 mins away and so we walked. It was not an easy walk as we had to ascend a hill. Along the way, Mike said he needs to go to the bank and he will be back in a while. I waited for a while and since it was getting late, I decided to venture on my own to get the flowers. Lo and behold, I found the florist without any help and exactly the colours I wanted. I was so overjoyed, not for me but for her. The florist wrapped it nicely and it was a good bargain.

God's majestic handiwork

Image
Yesterday, while travelling from Kathmandu to New Delhi, I was sitting on the right side the plane window seat. I had the best view of the majestic Himalayan Range. Towering snow-capped mountains that stretched for miles, made me stare in awe and wonder at God's magnificent handiwork. It took my breath away. Psalms 8:3 - When I consider your heavens  the work of your fingers,  the moon and the stars,  which you have set in place,  what is mankind that you are mindful of them,  human beings that you care for them The God who created these picturesque is the one we worship and He says in I saiah 49:15 - “Can a mother forget the infant at her breast, walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget, I’d never forget you—never. Look, I’ve written your names on the backs of my hands.  (MSG) What an amazing God.

What a trip to Nepal

Image
I am sitting at the airport restaurant in Kathmandu, checked in and waiting for my departure to New Delhi and from there, onward to Singapore.  Just sipping and enjoying the Americano coffee and a slice of cheese cake as I reminiscent my last nine days in Nepal. It has been a incredibly tough trip but one filled with joy, great satisfaction and challenges. Tough because of the bad roads, tracks and mountain trekking that really tested my endurance and my back was sore.  Couple of knocks on the head as the vehicle danced to the tune of the undulating terrain. Days when I had terrible diarrhoea, running from one mountain toilet to another. Thank God I had Dr Mike Ong on this trip who is a medical doctor from Singapore, who attended to my condition. Times when we had to sleep on the cold floor with thin sheets of cloth, with rodents in the vicinity. Temperatures dropped to a low of 10-12 degrees centigrde in the nights. Eating the food offered by the villagers as we were up in the mounta

Interesting conversation with little ones

Image
We were having dinner and a few girls from the from Carmichael Girls Hostel sat behind us on the floor. This home, located in West Nepal, is the brainchild of Dr Mike Ong, to provide a decent environment and a future for under privileged kids, who otherwise would have never left their homes in the mountains in Jajarkot, Nepal.  Apparently one of them had lost her lock key to her box and they were waiting for Pst Prem to help. I decided to strike a conversation with them. I started showing them pictures of my family and they were so interested that they began to huddle around my phone.  Then on of the girls said, "Uncle, please come to our hostel". Surprisingly these girls can speak reasonable English, as they are being tutored by teachers from Singapore via zoom (another outreach project by committed Christians).   So Pst Prem and I walked over to their dorm. As I stepped in, immediately one of them (about 8 years old) grabbed a  chair  from the corner and asked me to sit, wh

Transit in New Delhi

Image
I departed Singapore yesterday for New Delhi and arrived uneventfully. Thank God, I had no problems with the immigrations. My connection to Kathmandu was early this morning.  It was cool in New Delhi but the air was heavily polluted and visibility was less than 500 feet. I checked into a nearby motel and wanted to leave about 2 hrs before flight but the reception advised me to be there at least 3 hrs. I was sceptical but decided to follow his advice.  I left my motel at 3:45 AM. Managed to get at least 3 hrs of sleep. Good that I listened to the receptionist in the motel. The airport was so crowded at this time of the morning. Took almost two hours to clear immigration and custom.  Lesson learnt: If transiting through New Delhi always be there at least 3 hrs before flight no matter what time of the day.  Looking   forward  to my first landing in Kathmandu.

VBS at PEC Rasoolpura, Hyderabad

Image
The team from Singapore conducted a one day VBS program for about 105 children from the Rasoolpura slum. The theme for the VBS was "An Awesome God". The program consisted of story telling, craft  work  and games. Both the team and the students all enjoyed the program. Bishop Nehemiah said that the s tudents and his teachers all are blessed and encouraged.  We thank the sponsors for the lunch and the door gifts for the kids. Special Thanks to Bishop Nehemiah and his wife and the team of helpers from Rasoolpura church who helped to make this  event  a successful and a  memorable one for the children. The team was blessed with this opportunity to serve. Thank you

Helping the persecuted Christians in Pakistan

Image
As you are aware that recently we send some relief aid to the Christians in Pakistan who were affected by the Muslim persecution. Many churches and homes were destroyed.  Many of the affected families are staying with relatives or renting rooms. But those who have no means are still staying In make shift shelters. By God's grace, that we were able to raise some funds to help some of the Christian families in Jaranwala.  We thank God for this opportunity to bless the persecuted Christians in Jaranwala, Pakistan on 10 Nov. Especially when the winter is soon approaching. Special thanks to Pst Robert Haroon from UMPC and the sponsors who made this possible. "...Let them see your good works and glorify the Father in heaven"

Christian education Training in East Nepal

Image
Praise God for this 1st batch batch of young men and women who graduated from the one moth intensive "Christian Education" course held in Okhaldhunga district, Koshi Province, East Nepal. Congratulations to Pst Denis and team for passing on the training many more in unreached places. It keeps on growing. This is the first time we are  doing this. The response has been good.  Not the trained Cps are conducting their own training programs. This is what we can  exponential growth. Special thanks to Bishop Samuel Sharma, Pst Denis and the team for this  extension .  To God be the glory

Good News Assembly Church

Image
Yesterday Jeya and I were invited to minister at the Good News Assembly Church in Skudai, Hohor, Malaysia. This is our first visit to this church. We were invited by the founding pastor, Pst Dass. I had known pastor Dass in the 70's when he was working  in Singapore and was affiliated with Salem Chapel. He used to attend PEC also in those days. It was a joy to meet him and his wife again. after a long time. They are both in their mid 70's but still fervent for the Lord. I also met his children and his grandchildren. It was good to see how Pst Das and his family are serving God faithfully. I heard about the many challenges this pastor had gone through and yet, faithfully serving the Lord. Some of the stories are heartbreaking but their faith in the Lord is unshaken.  Oh... we forgot to take a picture with them.😔 We had a great service. There was a  sizeable   congregation.  My topic was about Missions and many were blessed by the message. There were many young people in the chu

The New Covenant - Life in the Spirit

Hebrews 8:10 - This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. The writer in Chapters 7-9 compares the Old covenant and the new. In particular he highlights the work of our Lord on the cross and how He established the New Covenant. Hebrews  9:12 -.... but he entered the Most Holy Place  once for all  by his own blood,  thus obtaining  eternal redemption. Jesus by His sacrifice on the  cross established the new covenant.  The writer tells us that the old covenant was found wanting.  I see three issues that was difficult in the old covenant. 1.   The continuous offering of sacrifices . Hebrews 7:27 tells us that the sacrifices were to be offered daily, not only for the people but also for the priest who is making the offering on behalf of the people. And the procedure was so elaborate as we see in the Torah. The tabernac
