Sola fide - Faith alone

Image
Romans 5:1 - Therefore, since we have been justified  through faith,  we  have peace  with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Sola fida or faith alone was the battle cry of Martin Luther and the reformers of the protestant movement.  Sola fide  is one of the five  solas  that came to define and  summarise  the key issues of the Protestant Reformation.  The doctrine of  justification  by faith alone distinguishes us from every other  religion that is "work based".  Martin Luther described it as being “the article with and by which the church stands.”   Those who reject this foundation are in danger  of embracing  "another gospel". Romans 5:1 may have about 20 words but it is  pregnant  with much  theology that may even take years to unpack. The basis of this verse is embedded on the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. Because of sin, that intervened human history in Genesis 3,  man lost the shalom he had with God. The ensuing consequence

Social work - Touching the community

Image
On 25 th  May afternoon, we had the graduation program for the ladies from the sewing class. This is a social community program and is sponsored by Rev James and his wife Merilyn. The purpose is to reach out to the community in Darlsingpara, where our training centre is located. 13 ladies graduated from the program. All of them are from Hindu background and the ceremony was attended by their family and friends. I had the privilege of sharing the gospel with them that afternoon and I am sure the Lord is working in their lives. The ladies were thankful for the program and the event was covered by the news media which was broadcasted that evening on local state media. Through this means we are being the salt and light to the world and are also sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. This skill will help the ladies to bring some income to their families.  But most importantly it brings them to hear the gospel.  Already 16 new students have signed up for the next batch which will start in Ju

Travel to NE India

Image
On 22 May, I departed for North East India while Dr Mike Ong continued with his program in Telangana state. I arrived Bagdogra Airport on time. Air travel is almost back to normal in India and except for the aircrew and groundcrew, no one else is wearing mask. Bishop Samuel Sharma and his son Abhishek were at the airport to receive me. Abishek is our “new driver” and I think he will qualify for Formula 1 ðŸ˜€.  It was also a joy to meet Bishop’s wife Jenima and their daughter Afrin. On arrival at the PEC School of Ministry Centre in Darlsingpara, I was given warm welcome and a birthday cake awaited me. I was touched by the kindness and love of our people. For the next few days I took classes for the church planters course students.  There are nine students in this batch and they are hungry for the Word. The students are mature, very participative in the classes and have a passion for church planting. I was blessed to be with them. Wished I had more days with these students.  Group pictur

Sunday service in Rasoolpra

Image
This morning we attended the worship service in Rasoolpura. It was good to be back in our sister church. Always felt like coming home here in Rasoolpura. Dr Mike Ong shared the Word.  In the evening we witnessed a children’s program and as usual the kids were lively and wonderful. Dr Mike Ong played a game with the kids and also told them a story from the Bible. The kids really had a good time. There is a good possibility of introducing the SIT program for these kids here. With Bishop and family

Four church dedications on 20 May

Image
On 20 May, we covered more than 800 KM to dedicate four new churches in AP and Telangana. We left Hyderabad at about 8AM and retuned on Sunday at 2:30AM. It was long and hectic journey under the scourging heat.  Temperatures were as high as 42degC. It was so hot that Dr Mike Ong’s shoes gave way because of the heat. But I was overjoyed to dedicate the four new churches for the glory of God. It was heartening to see the work of the church planters in many remote places in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Dr Mike Ong and I took turns to share the Word to the congregations. During the 4 th     church dedication it was about 7:30 PM and suddenly there were strong winds and heavy rain. The temperature dropped to a cool 23 degC. But there was lightning and thunder everywhere. Many trees were uprooted in the sudden squall and our return journey was delayed. We had to wait almost two hours for the trees to be cleared from the road. Especially as we were travelling back after dedicating the last c

Mission trip to Hyderabad and NE India

Image
It was my birthday on 19 May. I thank God for all his faithfulness and mercy for being with me all these years. Received so many greetings and messages from all over the world. I was humbled and glad to be a blessing to so many people around the globe. It is not who or what I am but t whom I belong and I praise God for what He has enabled me todo for His kingdom. Dr Ong and I arrived Hyderabad uneventfully. Bishop Nehemiah and Bro Lazar were there at usual to receive me at the airport. I was surprised with a birthday cake on arrival. It was celebrated in the  car-park. 🤣 But the thought is much appreciated. On 19 May evening, I left for Hyderabad.  This was my fourth trip to the mission field for this year. The purpose was to dedicate some new church buildings and also to meet up with our coordinators to discuss our future plans. Although it was a short trip, it was very fruitful.   Dr Mike Ong, a medical doctor from Singapore and a missionary to Nepal, came with me on this trip. His

At Singapore Charismatic Church and Mother's Day.

Image
This morning I was invited to speak at the Singapore Charismatic Church in Geylang. The Senior pastor here is Pst Png, a godly lady and who is very passionate about missions. As today is  Mother's Day, I spoke on Isaiah 49:15: “ Can a mother forget the baby at her breast  and have no compassion on the child she has borne?  Though she may forget,  I will not forget you!  See, I have engraved   you on the palms of my hands;  your walls are ever before me" My topic was the "Incomparable Love of Christ". A mother's love for her child is usually   regarded  as the  highest  form of affection to any human being. But I shared how God's love  surpasses  even that of the  mother's  love. God's love sent His son to the cross for you and me. And He has even  engraved us in the palms of His hands. What an amazing God. Blessed  Mother's Day  to all the  wonderful  mothers out there. And a very Blessed Mother's Day to the two amazing women in my life. Whe

Update on Esther's heart surgery

Image
Esther was admitted to CMC, Vellore yesterday. By God's grace, the funds for the surgery were all met and senior  cardiologists are attending to her. We thank God for divine connections and the Lord's favour on Pst Mohan's family. We thank God for the many who came forward to contribute to the expenses for the family. May the Lord richly bless them. Many of the church planters offered to give half their monthly support for this operation. I was deeply moved by this kind gesture.  Last few days, Bishop Anjan and his cousin Pst Pintu have been contacting people for blood donations for the surgery. They have been with the family and helping them with all the administration and coordination. A good example of servant leadership. Surgeons will be doing the necessary test s for the next few days before the surgery. Please pray that all will be well for God's glory.  Many people are praying for Esther. Will appreciate your prayers too.   "With God, all things are possib

Today one student  Dilli Pahadur Sahi  graduated  from the training. He is from the 3rd batch and has competed four months of  church  planters' training program. It was a simple but dignified ceremony. Dr Mike Ong shared the Word and encouraged the students. We thank God for Pst  Amrit  and the team who had been running this program, a  partnership between PEC and Peace Child Ministries. Currently we have five CPS working in remote places in Nepal. If ou want to partner with us in this ministry, please drop me an email: ramajeya03@yahoo.com.sg Together with the fourth batch students.

Promise verse for May - Isaiah 46:4

Image
The promise verse for the month of May is taken from  Isaiah 46:4 : Even to your old age and grey hairs ,   I am he, I am he who will sustain you.   I have made you and I will carry you;   I will sustain you and I will rescue you. In the preceding verses, the prophet mocks the idols of Babylon. Bel and Nebo, the gods of Babylon were reverently worshipped by the Babylonians. There were many statues of theses gods for the people to worship and bow down. Sometimes there idols were carried or carts driven by the animals. We do see this in many parts of Asia even today. Babylon was a great military power and much of that power would have been attributed to these gods. But when Persia attacked Babylon, even their gods could not stop the military advance. And in fleeing from the attack of the enemy, the Babylonians took their idols with them, in their cart. Maybe hoping these gods will deliver them. Sadly even their gods ended in captivity together with them. And that’s how our chapter begins
