The sin of flattery

Pro 18:21 - Death and life are in the power of the tongue James 3:5-6 - Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.   The tongue has been the cause of problems and sins in our lives. One of the ways we fail with our tongue is by the sin of flattery. Flattery is to praise or compliment someone insincerely. I have been guilty of it many times and I am sure many are. Some people talk so well in-front of you, heaping all the praises that only God deserves but behind the scene they were literally tearing you apart. Pastors are usually the victims and are usually roasted over the dinner table. Sadly many pastors are also the perpetrators. Some say to do this is human nature. Well, I would submit this is t

To serve

One of the many challenges facing some church leadership today is to get people to serve in the church. Sometimes the problem is not getting people, but getting people to serve with the right attitude. We cannot have too many "Indian chiefs" or people who only want to be on the limelight. That may work well in the secular, but in the service of God, the standards are entirely different. As I was doing an introspection the Lord showed some areas of concern. There are many qualities we can list in what we want to see in a team. But for a team to work in a spiritual setting, three qualities sets a person apart. First is humility . In Acts 20:19 , Paul says, " serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and with trials that happened to me through  the plots of the Jews." If anyone could have boasted of his credentials. Apostle Paul is certainly one of them. Yet on many occasions, Paul calls himself a slave a bond-slave. His service to God was from that

Weekend in Klang, Malaysia

Image
Last weekend we were at Bethany Church in Klang. Bro Stephen Mohan and his family hosted us. It was a good time of fellowship and sharing on Saturday night with the church board members and their families. I was blessed to hear the great things God is doing in the church. We managed to spend some time with Stephen and his dear wife Flora. Great people with such a passion for God. Talked about how God is moving in a very special way. On Sunday we had the privilege to share the Word during two morning worship services. We have been visiting the church since the last two years and have seen such remarkable progress. From one service in the morning, now they have two. They are planning to move out to a new place. The people are experiencing a new wave of the Holy Spirit. We saw the hunger for God and the desire to grow. This church will never be the same again. We ourselves were blessed. Praise God
