Be still

November has almost come to an end. This is the first Sunday in the last six months I am working, I think. Yes I have missed some Sundays because of overseas mission trips. But today, it is work. Circumstances had forced me to juggle work with more overriding demands. I really thank God for my colleagues who have been extremely kind and accommodating my shift changes.  But today gave me some time from hectic Sunday  schedules and to ruminate. As I sit in the office and reflect on what has transpired over the last trying months, I am reminded of the song “Be still”, especially the lyrics: When the oceans rise And the thunders roar I Will soar with You Above the storm Father You are King Over the flood And I will be still And know You are God Those words resonate with the scriptures, where David wrote in Psalms 46:10 - “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted   among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” But the issue is not G

Night to honour Israel

Image
Last night Jeya and I attended a function at Mandarin Orchard  Ballroom to honour the nation of Israel. Almost a thousand guests, both Christians and Israelis attended the function. It was organised by Cornerstone Community Church.  The guest of honour was the Israeli Ambassador to Singapore and the PM of Israel appeared on a short recorded speech. The event noted the many years of partnership between Israel and Singapore and the influence of Israel in Singapore's history was reminisced. The fist CM of Singapore was aJew, MR David Marshall.  It was also a night where we fought up with people who supported us in our missions, James and his wife Marilyn,Dr Lim and Doreen and some others.  Gen 12:3 -  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

Keeping the unity - Its hard work people

Eph 4:3 -  Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Last week had been quite challenging. In the midst of the excitement to do our best for the coming key events, the devil unwittingly and without any suspicion, starting sowing seeds of discord and this too amongst good friends. Small and trivial matters suddenly become points of contention. Suddenly programs begin to disintegrate, excitement begins to waver and anger shoots rocket high. When everything was moving forward, all of a sudden something happens that disrupt the momentum.  On the part of the leadership, its frustrating and even worrying. Why this all of a sudden? Have we done something wrong? We had to grapple with questions like these. While on the surface it appears to be a problem with inter-personal skills and poor cooperation but on close scrutiny one can perceive the finger prints of the elusive enemy at even turn.  The only thing that can be done is to go to the L

The ordered Christian life

Psalms 37:23-24 - The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand. (NLT). This morning I shared on the above verse.  God leads us step by step: •          Psalms 119:105 - Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. God's GPS for our lives. •          God takes interests in every bit of our lives •          Zephaniah 3:17 , “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness .” •          Psalm 147:11 , “The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him , in those who hope in his steadfast love.” How does God order my steps? 1.   He directs my steps •         Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 2.    He guards my steps •

Send off for National Service

Image
One of our youths, Gaddiel, will be draft ingot he army for 2 years of "National Service". This is an obligation to our nation for every male citizen of Singapore. Church leaders, together with family and friends, gathered tin his home o pray for our newest recruit as he embarks on the journey from a boy to a man.  It took me back to Dec 1977 when I also began a similar journey. At that time the church also gave me a send-off and I was given this verse in 1 Tim 4:12. "Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity". I shared the same verse for Gaddiel this evening, remind him that God is with Him on this journey.  Encouraged him to be an example for very one to see and the Lord will honour Him. Later that evening we went to Kartick BB's house for a house visit. We prayed for the family and had good  fellowship.
