Just be the Voice

The last two days have been truly enriching.

I have had the privilege of spending time with Scott and Joey. Beyond the meetings and ministry sessions, it was the conversations over meals, the laughter, and simply observing their lives that ministered to me the most.

Joey and I go back a long way. He is an outstanding facilitator, but motor than that he is a wonderful brother. What impresses me even more is his humility and patience. There is nothing pretentious about him. His love for the Lord is genuine, and his passion for the ministry simply oozes from him. It is contagious. You leave a conversation with Joey wanting to love Jesus more and serve Him more faithfully.

I had met Scott previously in Atlanta two years ago, but we never had the opportunity to spend much time together. These past two days have been a real blessing. Scott is a wonderful role model, a man with a tender heart, one in whom there is no guile. He loves the Lord deeply, treasures his family, and has an unwavering commitment to the ministry. His quiet authenticity speaks louder than many sermons.

This morning, during breakfast, Scott shared something that has stayed with me.

A significant part of his ministry involves raising funds. Anyone involved in missions or Christian ministry knows how challenging that can be. There are budgets to meet, projects to sustain, missionaries to support, and countless needs that seem to have no end. Scott admitted that there were nights when he lay awake wondering where the resources would come from.

I could immediately identify with him. Anyone who has led a church, a mission organisation, or a ministry has probably experienced those same sleepless nights. We know the vision God has given us, but we also know the financial realities that accompany it.

Then Scott shared how the Lord gently spoke to his heart.

The Holy Spirit impressed upon him these simple but profound words:

"Just be the voice. Leave the fundraising to God."

What a liberating truth!

Our primary calling is not to be financiers; it is to be faithful messengers.

We are called to proclaim His Word, cast His vision, and faithfully communicate what God has placed on our hearts. God never asked us to carry the burden that belongs to Him.

Our responsibility is obedience.

His responsibility is provision.

Moses did not have the resources to lead a nation, but God provided.

Nehemiah did not possess the materials to rebuild Jerusalem's walls, but God opened the heart of a king.

Hudson Taylor was right when he said,

"God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply."

That conversation reminded me of an important lesson every pastor and ministry leader needs to hear.

Too often we carry burdens that God never intended us to carry. We worry about finances, attendance, buildings, programmes, and the future of the ministry. While responsible planning is important, anxiety is not. There comes a point where we must faithfully do what God has called us to do and leave the results in His hands.

Perhaps the Lord is saying the same thing to many of us today:

"Just be My voice. Leave the provision to Me."

That is not an invitation to be passive; it is an invitation to trust. 

The God who calls is also the God who provides.

May we be faithful in proclaiming His message and confident that He is more than able to supply every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
