Fear of the Lord.....Fear not

This phrase in a facebook posting caught my attention this morning. 

 The Bible has a number of scriptures that command us to fear God:

  • Deut 6:24 -"So the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God for our good always and for our survival, as it is today.
  • Psalms 147:11 - The LORD favors those who fear Him, Those who wait for His lovingkindness.

Everyone who encounters God are struck by the fear of God, His holiness, His awe and majesty.
  • Hebews 12:21 - The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, "I am trembling with fear."
  • Isaiah 6:5 - Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! 
  • Rev 1:17 - When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. 
But after the encounter, the Lord always says, "Fear not...."
  • Joshua 1:9 -  Don't be afraid
  • Isaiah 43:1 - Do not fear, for I have redeemed you. 
And the list goes on.

We as christians need to hold both in creative tension. While we must not forget that our God is a Holy God and we need to revere Him is worship and in obedience, we must not forget that when God is with us, we need not fear. 

  • We can boldly enter into His presence (Her 4:16),
  • We can dance in His presence (Ps 30:11-12)
  • We can shout in His presence (Ezra 3:11-13)
In fact, if God is with us, we need not fear anything, YES, anything. Do you know that the devil is afraid of you. Know who you are in Christ and fear will become history.

    I am so strengthen and inspired by this sharing. It is true we have need to fear the Lord and everything shall follow. I am equipped to do more for the Kingdom of God without fear. For I know that the Lord will take of me and that the devil is afraid of us. We are unstoppable irrespective of the challenges we face. What a trip to Nepal

I am sitting at the airport restaurant in Kathmandu, checked in and waiting for my departure to New Delhi and from there, onward to Singapore.  Just sipping and enjoying the Americano coffee and a slice of cheese cake as I reminiscent my last nine days in Nepal. It has been a incredibly tough trip but one filled with joy, great satisfaction and challenges. Tough because of the bad roads, tracks and mountain trekking that really tested my endurance and my back was sore.  Couple of knocks on the head as the vehicle danced to the tune of the undulating terrain. Days when I had terrible diarrhoea, running from one mountain toilet to another. Thank God I had Dr Mike Ong on this trip who is a medical doctor from Singapore, who attended to my condition. Times when we had to sleep on the cold floor with thin sheets of cloth, with rodents in the vicinity. Temperatures dropped to a low of 10-12 degrees centigrde in the nights. Devotion - Psalms 44: 6-7 - Its God who gives the victory

Psalms 44:6-7 - I put no trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory; but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame. Any soldier will know that the basic weapon of warfare, in those days, were the bow and sword. Without which no soldier will not venture into the battle field. Even the famed Goliath was geared in full battle order when he faced David with the stones and the sling. Isn't it a paradox then that David, one of the finest soldiers Israel had ever produced, proclaims that its not the bow and the sword that gives the victory. Its is the Lord, Jehovah, that gives the victory. I don't think David is trying to say that we should not prepare ourselves for warfare. His concern is that we recognize that ultimately its the Lord that gives the victory.
