Promise verse for Aug - Psalms 29:11

This is one of those psalms where David extols the Lord for who He is. God is simply omnipotent. He is majestic and is worthy of all our praise.

Something unique about this Psalm: The name "Lord" appears seventeen times and the phrase "voice of the Lord" appears seven times.

In the opening words, David calls on the heavenly beings to Ascribe to the Lord or Honour the Lord. Honour Him for his glory and strength and Honour Him for glory of His name.

What a powerful name it is - The name of Jesus. The awesome glory of His name where Paul tell us in Philippians 2:10-11

  • that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
And how are we to honour Him? -  Worship the Lord in the splendour of his holiness.

You cannot separate God's holiness from His glory. They are intertwined and we are to worship His majesty in the beauty of His holiness and His awesome glory.

Psalms 65:6 - Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;

Reverence to God is certainly an important aspect of worship.

Paul again give us a practical way we can worship the Lord in holiness:

Romans 12:1 - ...offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

What a great responsibility for all of us, that our lives reflect His glory and His holiness everyday, every moment. And we can do this by the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells within us.

In verses 3-10, David describes the power of the voice of the Lord. All that is needed is for the Lord to speak and everything falls in place. His voice is majestic, is powerful, it shatter and twists. Just His voice is enough to perform miracles. the earth trembles at His voice. What a description.

He rules the earth and He regins as king forevermore (verse 10)

And in spite of His greatness, His majesty and His awesome power, this omnipotent God speaks to you and me in His still small voice. He came down to my level as Paul will tell us in Philippians 2:7but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. what humility, what virtue.

He did this because He knew our sinful condition, our weakest, our frailty our deficiencies and this God offers us his help:

Verse 11 - He give His strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. He give His peace to those who are in turmoil.

As we journey through this month, be assured that our God is the all powerful God. He is in control of everything in our lives. When things get rough, and it certainly, He give us His strength and His peace to ride over the storm
