The day when reality set in

Today we had two main events. First a visit to a Children's Home in the outskirts of Yangon. This Home is run by Missions Myanmar, of which Pst John Phongshar is a part. There are about 15 kids here and most of them are missionaries kids. These missionaries work in remote places where there are no schools. The kids are sent to this Home, where they grow in a Christian environment and attend school as well. This is really a noble idea. It will spur more people to be come missionaries.

Also I discovered it was Pst John Phongshar's birthday. So we decided to surprise him with a cake. Pst John was really surprised and delighted. In his whole life, there were only three occasions where he had a cake for his birthday. After the cake cutting we prayed for him. Its so difficult to find a man of God who is honest, sincere and has no ulterior motive. But I found this Pst John. High class stewardship, especially in money. Thank God for such man with great passion, commitment and perseverance. In fact he was driving the van and taking care of all our needs during the trip.

The children were between 10-17 years of age and very well behaved. We did some songs and Sis Vimala told them the story about Joseph. It was well received. The team also did some craft work with the children. We had a blessed time with them.

The Home where the children are staying needs extensive repairs. Living conditions was a bit sparse. Yet no one is complaining. How thankful we should be with all the comforts we have in Singapore and yet complain.

Next was a visit to the Indian village in San Hin Mi village in the outskirts of Thanlyn. Pst Edward Jo Jo received us as our team surveyed the village where this Indian community was living. Our team members had seen nothing like this before in their lives. Deplorable living conditions with abject poverty. I could see some of them were emotionally moved. As they carried the little toddlers, tears were whelming in their eyes. "Can people still in today's age, live in such conditions". They live from hand to mouth, sometimes with one meal a day.  11 year old girl was raped in the village and nobody can do anything about it. Really sad. Thesis because they do not have any identity papers and hence not helped by anyone. Its a long story. Made me real sick.

A meeting was arranged for using another sector of the village. About 40 people gathered for the meeting. Inspire of their poverty, they worshipped God from their hearts. The worshipped as if the had everything they needed. How ironical. Here in Singapore, we have everything and yet we are observers in our worship services, totally disengaged during the preaching of the Word or engaged more on the wifi with the social media, right during the service. There everyone was engaged in worship and listening the Word with such hunger. They put us to shame.

During the alter call, many responded. There were many cases of demon oppression. A lot of followup work is needed in this village.

The team left with mixed emotions. I pray that they will not stop here but will go on to do what God tells them to do.

Every time I come to this village, I get depressed seeing the living conditions. But to see many people coming to accept Jesus as Lord, lives being changed and they are given a hope in God, keeps me coming again even though the journey is difficult and the resources scarce. The harvest truly is plentiful but the labours are few.
