Something different this Christmas and with a purpose

Every year we had a Christmas tree decorated in the church. This year our deco team ventured into something different and for a good reason. They proposed to decorate a cross instead of the tree. I agreed. Of course it drew flakes from those with the traditional mindset and I fully understand their response. Because I too was skeptical at first but as I thought deeper, it made a lot of sense.

Paul says in Gal 6:14 -As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.

If not for the cross, everything else in the Christian faith crumples to mere religion.

So Sis Melody, the brainchild behind this "thinking out of the box" did an explanation for the skeptics and this is it. Really thankful to Mel and Steven for this and also for decorating the church in a glorious way this year (visit https://www.facebook.com/pec.church.9/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel to see the pictures).  Probably the best deco ever in PEC. To God be the glory.

Celebrating The True Reason of Christmas

PEC Christmas Decor Theme for 2016 hopes to accentuate, reveal and celebrate the true and wonderful essence of Christmas - Jesus Christ and all that symbolizes Him as The Messiah from the Old Testament through to the The New Testament.

In the Old Testament, God gave the representation of the coming Messiah through the Tabernacle when He gave specific detailed instructions to Moses for the building of this sacred structure.

In the New Testament, God executed His divine miraculous plan by sending His Son, Jesus, through a virgin, which we all know was the first Christmas. Celebrating and remembering the birth of Jesus, Who is no longer a baby but a Risen Saviour - is what Christmas is all about.

Further down the Scriptures, we read that this same Messiah Christ will return soon to rule as King over all.

Therefore, moving away from paganistic cultures and secular traditions like Santa Claus, Christmas trees, candy canes, reindeers, and even the colours red, white and green, this year (and hopefully from now on), these are replaced with Christmas Tree Crosses decorated by the profound yet symbolic colours of the Tabernacle and all that represents Christ. For indeed He is the Reason for the Season!

There are meanings to every piece of decor items....

1. The Cross as the Tree

Although many would associate the cross with His suffering, pain and shame, it is no less the symbol of Christ Himself. For without the cross, He would not have been crucified for our sins. He would not have died. He would not have resurrected. And He would not have had victory over sin and death. There would be no salvation, no reconciliation to our Creator, our faith futile and we would still be sinking deep in sin.

Galatians 3:13- Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on the tree").  So Christ willingly hung on that 'tree' a.k.a The Cross - to take our curses upon Himself - all for the sake of Love. So therefore, even as we look upon this 'Cross-tree' may it remind us of His victory and triumph over the world for our sakes.

2. Moses' Tabernacle-

The colours and its intricate designs has profound significance to the prophesied coming Saviour in this Old Testament structure. Certainly God would not have had His Son to be misrepresented in any manner. Hence He gave detailed specifications to building it according to His instructions. The Tabernacle was built as a dwelling place for God amidst His people. And when Jesus was born and walked the earth, He was God dwelling in the midst of His people.

If you look closely, you will see these colours:

a. Brown baubles overlayed with gold
    Brown - His Humanity.
    Gold - His Deity
    Silver - His Redemptive Price
Blue - God came down from above
                (Heaven)
Red - His Blood - the Sacrifice
Purple - He is the King of Kings - Royalty
White - His kingdom of Purity (Holiness)
                 and Righteousness

3. Candles and the lights - He is the Light of the world

4. Crown on top of Cross - He is the King of kings Who is coming back soon to rule and reign forevermore. He Was, Is & Always will be!

5. Flowers and butterflies - He is The Creator of all living creatures

6. The musical notations & trumpets - the angels rejoicing and announcing His birth, and soon they will proclaim of His return

7. The gift boxes - Christ was the gift of a Saviour to save us from our sins and He is the giver of all good things.

8. Black cloth at the foot of the Cross - sin and death has been defeated by the finished work on the Cross.

9. The artifacts of the First Noel - the stars, the angels, the manger, the stable, the shepherd's crook, the animals, the hay, and the three wise men gifts - gold, frankincense and myrrh - gives us a glimpse of how it would have been on that blessed morning.

This Christmas, may we truly know and understand the meaning of this season. Our Creator God left His glory from above, came down to earth in the form of a Baby - through the birth of a virgin - grew up and dwelt in the midst of mankind. Then went to the Cross in obedience. Suffered, died and resurrected - just so that we can be with Him again for eternity. Who could have imagined such an amazing Love.

"And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

We rejoice and celebrate this greatest Act of Love.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Believe on the Name of Jesus today and experience this Unmatched Amazing Love of Jesus personally.
