Sunday service at ALFC

This morning Jeya and I were at Abundant Life Family Church in Ang Mo Kio. Senior Pastor Allan Ang had invited us to preach this Sunday. It's always a joy to be back here. Many of the members have become friends with us.

My message today was entitled: When Hope Seems Out of Reach. Looking at the of Zachariah and Elizabeth.  Most of the time we hear sermons about Zachariah as a man without faith and who was punished due to its lack.

Today I took the text from a different angle as a couple who were righteous,  blameless. and obedient (Luke 1:6).

Between the Book of Malachi in the Old Testament and the Book of Matthew in the New Testament, was a period of 400 years and God has not spoken in the last 400 years.

When God decided to break His 400-year silence, he did it:

  • Not to a king
  • Not to a prophet like Moses or Elijah,
  • Not to a famous priest like Samuel,
  • Not  a philosopher

But to an old, aged, couple Zachariah and Elizabeth

I asked myself this question:

Why would God choose this couple out of the thousands of couples at that time?

I gave three reasons:

They were Faithful in the Dark Times

  • They remained faithful when Israel had slacked in their relation ship with God

They were Faithful in the Silent Times

  • They remained faithful even though God did not answer their prayer

They were Faithful in Fulfilled Times

  •    They offered praise to God and gave back their son to God to serve as a prophet
Unfortunately the sermon was not recorded today due to technical problems.

The response was good and we were blessed too. To God be the glory.
