Children's Christmas celebration in Odisha

On behalf of our ministry team, we are pleased to share a report on the Christmas celebration conducted yesterday in a remote village of Rayagada District, Odisha. Under the leadership of Bishop Anjan, this outreach was organised to bring joy, hope, and tangible support to children living in some of the most challenging circumstances in the region.

Odisha remains one of the most backward states in India, where poverty, social marginalisation, and persecution of minority communities are widespread. Many families struggle to meet basic daily needs, and children are often the most affected—facing hunger, lack of education, and limited access to care and protection.

In such an environment, our church planters serve not only as messengers of hope but also as frontline workers addressing urgent social needs. Their work involves courage, perseverance, and a deep commitment to holistic transformation.

Many children gathered for the Christmas celebration, many of whom come from families that rarely experience festive meals or special events. For several children, this was the only proper meal they received that day.

The program included:

  • A joyful Christmas gathering with songs and activities

  • Sharing of the Christmas message in a child-friendly and encouraging way

  • Distribution of a nutritious Christmas meal and treats

  • Fellowship and personal interaction between the children and the ministry team

The atmosphere was filled with joy, laughter, and gratitude. For the children, the celebration was not only a festive event but a reminder that they are seen, valued, and loved.

This Christmas outreach is part of a broader mission strategy in Odisha. Our church planters are actively engaged in:

  • Running tuition centres to support children’s education

  • Operating a children’s home for destitute and vulnerable children

  • Community development initiatives aimed at reducing poverty and improving livelihoods

  • Continuous pastoral care and spiritual encouragement for families facing persecution

Our approach is holistic, addressing spiritual, educational, and physical needs together, so that communities can experience lasting change.

The Christmas treat was truly a blessing for many children who regularly go without sufficient food. Parents and community members expressed deep appreciation, recognizing the care and compassion shown to their children. Such moments build trust, open hearts, and strengthen the foundation for long-term ministry in these villages.

Your generosity directly impacted the lives of vulnerable children, bringing joy, nourishment, and hope during the Christmas season. Because of your support, our teams are able to stand with these communities and continue serving them faithfully.

Psalms 44:6-7 - I put no trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory; but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame. Any soldier will know that the basic weapon of warfare, in those days, were the bow and sword. Without which no soldier will not venture into the battle field. Even the famed Goliath was geared in full battle order when he faced David with the stones and the sling. Isn't it a paradox then that David, one of the finest soldiers Israel had ever produced, proclaims that its not the bow and the sword that gives the victory. Its is the Lord, Jehovah, that gives the victory. I don't think David is trying to say that we should not prepare ourselves for warfare.
