Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ

Ephesians 1:3 - Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

After his brief introduction, Paul begins his letter by praising God. He declares the relationship between God and the Lord Jesus as a Father-Son relationship, a mystery that John the Apostle unfolds in many places in his book.

  • John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son
  • John 5:19Jesus gave them this answer: "Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.
  • John 17:13 in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.

The Trinity is a mystery that scholars are stilled baffled and awed by it, whilst critics dismiss it as "nonsense". One God in three persons and each person is God and yet one is a doctrine that does not go well with the secular or the monotheistic mind. I believe that even in heaven, we will not stop learning the depth of the mystery of this relationship between the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.

Even though it is a mystery, yet this relationship has a profound blessing on us Christians who believe the Word of God and who have been living in a relationship with the Trinity:

  • John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
  • 1 John 2:23-24Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also
  • John 5:12 -Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Praise God that because of this mystery, I am now a child of God and part of this mysterious Trinity. I have a right relationship with God because of the death and resurrection of the Son and the Holy Spirit dwells in me, to guide me in this journey called life. I am continually assured of His presence; I am the temple of the living God.

That in itself calls for praise to God, just as Paul does in this verse. "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ". Amen.
