Psalms 46:6 -He lifts his voice, the earth melts

Psalms 46:6 - Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

In the previous verses David uses the analogy of nature to describe adversities that may afflict one’s life, the earth, the mountains and the sea.  And we drew parallels from these illustrations to real time issues.

In this verse David paints another form of affliction that are not uncommon to all.

There seems to be disquiet amongst the countries of the world. The KJV uses the words, “The heathen raged”. It seems to give the impression that nations were in disarray and kingdoms begin to shake in rage and arrognace. Political leaders are the source of distress, people are the casue of complaint and relationships seem to be breaking down.

A relational crisis.   Political pressure, relationship issues and oppression from people is another avenue the devil brings to deflate the faithful. If you are a true Christian, you must be familiar with this type of torment. Your friends and colleagues may ridicule you for your faith. Your family may disown you. But these kinds are easily bearable as the Lord as already warned us in His word. The worst kind is that which comes from fellow Christians. There is always a Judas, always a betrayer, always a doubter and those who let you down at the crucial hour of need. Jesus had them. If the master himself had them, what make you think you are an exception?.

David was no stranger to this kind of oppression from people. When he was a shepherd, he was an outcast in his family.
  • Psalms 27:10 - Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.
When he was a soldier he was against the heathen and the enemies. Saul always wanted to kill him. Even his own people (1 Samuel 30) and son  (2 Samuel 15) came against him. It can easily shatter anyone’s confidence and hope.

An economic crisis.  The other thing that can bring fear is when strong kingdoms fall. Who would have expected big nations like the US and the European Union to fall to a tiny virus? They simply fell. The economy of the world is in a upheaval mode. Everything is down.
  • The whole world is in a pandemonium.
  • People afflicted with the Covid virus, thousands have died and more than a million have been afflicted.
  • Some lost their jobs.
  • Some with financial difficulties.
  •  The stock market is down.
  • Food and necessities are scarce.
  •  Tension in relationships because of the lockdown and misunderstandings.
  •  One crisis after another.
  • Every sector of our lives have been affected like never before.
Surly these are sufficient to strike one with terror and palpitating fear.

But look at David’s resolve: “He lifts his voice, the earth melts”. Just one word from the Creator and “peace be still”. David realized that God is still sovereign and in control of every situation. Only one word is needed from the Lord.

Don't be afraid of threats, harsh words, accusations that are unfounded or even false allegations, God sees and God will intervene at His own time. Just one word and the earth will give way.

Don't be worried when strong nations fall and everything you hoped for is in utter distress. Has the Covid19 situation shattered your faith and resolve? Remember, God is still sovereign. Just one word from Him….

Are you discouraged by people, especially by those whom you have trusted. Do you feel cheated or betrayed? Jesus himself went on that same path. But his response was one of love and forgiveness, “Father forgive them for they no not what they do”. Are you tempted to take revenge or curse? That’s a wrong course of action.

Let’s do what Jesus did and so be called the children of the Father.
