Promise verse for Aug 19
Psalms 145-18 -The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
Paul and Silas in Acts
16, were thrown into prison but God was with them
This is one of the alphabetical psalms,
composed with much art, and, doubtless, so arranged that the memory might be
aided.
The Holy Spirit condescends to use even
the more artificial methods of the poet, to secure attention, and impress the
heart.
This
psalms is all about praising God:
·
He praises God in this psalm.
·
David begins and ends this psalm with praise.
·
In the middle, David describes why He is praising God.
· He
wants people to know that His God is the greatest.
Verse
18 seems to be the centre of this psalm, which hold all other praises:
1. Because God is
near, you are not alone (Presence)
Verse 18 - The Lord is near to all who call
upon Him
When you walk through the deep waters,
God is with you
Is 43:2 - When
you go through deep waters, I will be with you When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up; the flames will
not consume you.
In time of deep anxiety, he is with you:
Psalms 23:4- Even
when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
- In Joseph time of temptation – God was with him
- When Daniel was in the lion’s den, God was with him
- When the three Hebrews boys were thrown into the fire, God was with them
The same God was with them will be with
you in your every trying and challenging situation.
When people falsely
accuse, God will be with you and He will vindicate you. Job is a case in point
- I have seen this so many times in my life
- All you need to do is be still.
- No need to defend yourself
- God will vindicate
Peter was sentenced to
die and was in prison but God was with Him
2. Because He is near,
there is no fear (Power)
- Verses 4-6 - One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. 5 They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty— and I will meditate on your wonderful works. 6 They tell of the power of your awesome works— and I will proclaim your great deeds.
David in his life can recall how the
power of God removed the fear from his life:
When faced with Goliath:
- 1 Sam 17:45- David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
- 2 Tim 1:7 - For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
- Isaiah 59:19 - When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.
When
David fought the many battles:
- Psalms 44:7 - but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame.
- Psalms 21:8 - Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies; your right hand will seize your foes.
- Isaiah 54:7 - no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the awesome work.LORD.
When the disciples
were there in the storm and the winds and the wave, Jesus was there.
- Why did you fear?
- Jesus had power over the winds and the waves
I can recount of the many situations I
have seen the wondrous work of God. His power and His wondrous work.
- In the midst of attacks – He was by my side
- In the midst of fear –He was my power
- In the midst of storm – He was there present
- In almost death situation – He was near
Luke 10:19 - Look,
I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk
among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.
David’s response to people:
Psalms 118:6 - The
LORD is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?
