The Parakletos

John 14:26  - But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

The KJV calls the Holy Spirit as the Comforter.

In the original Greek the word is paraklētos which means summoned, called to one's side, especially called to one's aid. In the widest sense, a helper, succorer, aider, assistant.

Isn't it encouraging to know that the Holy Spirit actually comes along side us to help us in the time of need. In other words the Holy Spirit can speak to us. He can speak audibly but usually its the still small voice within us. But we need to be able to listen to Him.

He does two things according to this verse:

1)   Teach all things:

When we need counsel, He is the Counsellor
When we are a plan or strategy, He is the best Advisor
When we need a vision, He is best visionary.
In any situation the Holy Spirit is there to help us teach us.

Its good we have many people as our advisors, but the Holy Spirit is the best advisor. Learn to listen to Hm and be sensitive His voice.

2)    Remind us of what Christ has said.

In orderer for the Holy Spirit to remind us, we must store in us His words. He can only remind us of what we have learnt or heard. Within the recess of our hearts we need to store God's Word. Its from there He will remind us of what Jesus had said.

Hence the importance or reading and meditating on the Word of God.

Proverbs 4:21My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words.
21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Solomon says the Word of God bring healing to the body. When the Doctor prescribes us medication, we strictly follow his instructions. "2 tablets, 3 times a day". We are very careful about these things. Here the Proverb tells us not to let the Word of God get out four sight and when we do that it will bring healing tour bodies. May God help us that we bury the Word of God in our hearts, let it be the mediation of our hearts daily
