Devotion -Daniel 6:10 -Ewe need spiritual discipline

One of the things we see in the life of Daniel is his discipline. If you would ask any athlete who have achieved great things, they will tell you its because of hard work and discipline. In the same way even for spiritual growth, we need discipline. We see this in the life of Daniel.

As a young man, Daniel started making the right decisions.

Daniel 1:8 - But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king

Two things stand out in his discipline:

He prayed as always (6:10) -  Daniel had a regular time of prayer. In fact he prayed three times a day. That takes a lot of discipline and time. In spite of his busy schedule, Daniel had time to pray. May God help us the we will not neglect the time of prayer in our lives.

He gave thanks to God. (6:10). Daniel knew that his life was at stake. By praying openly he will be thrown to the lions. He gave thanks. Many time when we face danger, we question God and maybe even pray quietly. Why take the risk? Use your brains. Not for Danie. Obeying God's Word ws for more important than his own life.

His frequent seeking of God resulted in a life in which his faith was easily recognized by those around him. In fact, King Darius described Daniel as a “servant of the living God” (v. 20) and twice described him as a person who served God “continually”(vv. 16, 20). Like Daniel, we desperately need God.  How good to know that God works in us so that we long to spend time with Him! (Philippians 2:13).

So let us come every day before God, trusting that our time with Him will result in a love that will overflow more and more and in a growing knowledge and understanding of our Savior (1:9–11).
