Nehemiah - The Civil Servant

Nehemiah was not a prophet or a priest. He was a civil servant. Yet God used him to achieve something what the kins/prophets/priests of those days could not do. You and I need not be a clergy yet God can use the laity if there is passion and a clear vision. The qualities we considered so far are:
  • Conscientious
  • Concerned
  • Compassion
  • Conviction

Conviction comes as a result of a clear understanding of who God is.
Convictions results from a clear understanding of one's self.
Conviction results from a clear understanding of the need around us.

In Chapter 1, verses 8-10, Nehemiah recounts the misery of his people. They are in exile, walls need to be rebuilt. He is going to see the king with the request to go back because there was a great need back in Jerusalem. A clear understanding of the need around him drove him to fast and pray and that actually gave birth to the vision of rebuilding the walls of the city of his father. It drove him to the King, he went all the way back to Jerusalem and accomplished the God given vision.

If you and I are to move with passion and a vision, we must seriously realise that without Christ the world is without hope. Without Christ my friends, my neighbours and my family will go to hell.

Many of us have a God given vision. But it remains a dream

We have not fulfilled the vision because......
We have lost the passion for the vision
We have lost the passion because you have no commitment
We have no commitment because you say you have no time
We have no time because of a shift in our value system
The answer is to reset our priorities.
