Blessed Mother's Day
In my life, I only know of two women who are the best mothers, God has given to children. You may have your own selection and opinions but this is mine💌. First is my wife and the second is my own mom.
They both would fit squarely in the description of a woman in Proverbs 31. I will leave it to our children, to sing their mom's praise. But this space is dedicated to my mom.
The last few months, I have been spending a lot of time with my mother, partly because of shifting her closer to my house. Selling her flat in Sembawang, dealing with the buyers and the government procedures took a lot of time. But at least now she is much nearer to me and I can monitor her more closely.
My mom turned 84 this Mar. Time has taken a toll on her health and mind. While she appears to be alert and well, you can see that she is becoming frail, eating less and not able to remember many things. Her steps seem to falter at times but she still insists on walking on her own. She is on her sunset days, and we are doing all we can to make it pleasant for her.
But her life is one that ought to be celebrated.
In spite of her age, her devotion to Christ remains unwavering. She loves the Bible and she spends a considerable amount of time in prayer daily. She is still able to quote some of the scriptures from memory and shares about God's love to the people she meets, especially strangers. In fact when my housing agent was brought potential buyers to view the house, my mom will take the opportunity to talk to them about Jesus, no matter what religious background they are from. My exasperated agent will tell me, "Can you tell your mom not to speak to the viewers about Jesus, they will get offended and may not buy the house".🤣 That's my mom. She motor is the same as Paul - For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes (Roman 1:16)
My mom did not have a good life during her early days and the earlier part of her marriage. But the day my family gave ourselves to the Lord, everything changed, especially for my mom. "You have turned my mourning to dancing" is a true mirror of her life in Christ.
But that does not mean she had no challenges. They were many but she faced each one of them, trusting her Lord and Saviour. "God will see to it", is her favourite refrain.
She is a great evangelist, bringing hundreds to Christ. And the same zeal continues even today.
I have seen her humility, her great hospitality (many have been refreshed by her kindness) and most of all, her passion for her Master. She is always ready to help others, sometimes to my annoyance😠 She will give away all her possessions just to help someone in need. Sadly some "good christians" have taken advantage of that kindness.
I'm always grateful to the Lord for my mom. Besides the Lord, she is another personification of what true love is. For those who know her do visit her if you can, before it's too late.
Blessed Mother's Day.
God Bless !
