Thankful for sacrificial givers in Praise Evangelical Church, Singapore

Today I posted the following message in our PEC chat group

"Good morning church. If u are planning to give a Christmas gift for those in need, here is a suggestion.

We have a pastor in Bakhadda, village, District: Banka, Bihar. His name is Kapil Dev having more than 300 believers in the church in village. He needs 200 Hindi Bibles. Each hindi Bible cost 200 rupees which is about $4. Total cost is about $750.

This will be a real Christmas gift for these poor people. If u want to be a blessing and sow into the lives of these new believers, pls pm me. This will be the best gift the can receive in a time like this. God bless"

Within 5 minutes, a sister texted me saying she will sponsor the Bibles. I was humbled. by the instantaneous response. In a difficult time like this, especially when finances are valued because of the economic downturn, there are people who are willing to give beyond their means.

I am reminded of the poor widow who put in the 2 mites in the offering. Jesus said:

  • Mark 12:43-44 - Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

Jesus argues that the widow has given the most because while the rich have only given from their surplus, and thus have not sacrificed anything to God, the widow has indeed sacrificed greatly. She has given “even all her living,” suggesting that she may now not have money for food.

I am glad we have people with a compassionate heart in PEC. God has never shortchanged anyone who has dared to trust Him in the area of giving, especially for missions. Even for our missions work, I am overwhelmed by some of our people who have given in spite of the difficult Covid19 situation. And God has indeed honored them. One thing has not changed since the time of Jesus. It's usually the poor and the needly who have given much for the kingdom.

I can ell you testimonies after testimonies of how God has blessed those who have given generously. I am one such recipient of His blessings. If you dare to trust God with you finances, God gives you this challenge:

  • Malachi 3:10 - Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
