Trip to Myamar 10-15 Mar 14

This was Sidd's first trip on a missionary journey and my second.

The objectives of the trip were to conduct two Leadership seminars and also find out the prospect of running a short term CP training for potential CPs. Pst John Pongshar, an HI alumni, is our coordinator in Myanmar. Sis Evelyn, from Singapore, assisted in organizing and funding the seminars.

We departed on Monday, 10 Mar and were received at the airport by Pst John Pongshar and Sis Evelyn. From the airport went to the bus station for a 17 hr bus ride to Lasio. Fortunately the bus was comfortable. But along the way it broke down about midnight and there was a delay of about an hour.

We arrived at about 9,30AM on 11 Mar, changed our clothes and went straight for the seminar. We conducted the leadership seminar for a group of local pastors and leaders. The training was conducted over two days in Grace AOG, Lasio. But due to lack of time, we were not able to complete the series. The leaders were excited with the teaching and wanted us to come back again to continue with the series. By the end of the day, I was dead tired. On the next day we left Lasio in the evening for another 17 hr drive back to Yangon.

We arrived in Yangon about 9am on 12 Mar and went straight for the next seminar. This was for a group of Indian pastors and leaders. They sang and worshiped in Tamil although they were Burmese and born in Myanmar. However many of them were not able to communicate in Tamil. They were all very eager to listen and absorb the Word of God.

When the time was opened for commitment, many of them came forward to rededicate their lives for God's service and to be serious with their christian walk. The Spirit of God moved powerfully during the alter call. The people were hungry and sincere. There is a great need for teaching of sound doctrines to the Indian community in Myanmar. There is also a  great prospect for evangelism.

On the afternoon of 14 Mar, after the seminar, we visited the Bible School that Pst John Phongshar was running with the help of David Kriner from Singapore. A new two story building is still under construction. Together with Sis Evelyn, we discussed about the certificate CP course and God willing, we should start it in Jun. The dormitories in the school are badly in need of repair.

We returned home on 15 Mar afternoon. We achieved our objectives but we saw a real need in that land. I see a great need in Myanmar for the true living God. The doors in Myanmar are now open for the gospel. The people are hungry for God. Christians need to be equipped. We need more of the Word than mere rhetorics. We need to move now and move real fast of we are to win these people for Christ. The doors may not remain open for too long. Lets seize the opportunity and march in.
