Destined for Greater Things - Part 1

This morning, I spoke in church on the topic, Destined for Greater Things". The text was taken from Luke 1:1-11. One of the amazing work of the gospel is its effect it has on the lives of its recipients.

1. It transforms the life of a believer.
  • 2 Cor 5:17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

2. It transposes the believer from what he was ,to what he should be.

  • Jer 29:11 - I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future".
  • Gen 12:2 - I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
3. It translates him from being useless to being powerfully useful.
  • 1 Cor 1:26-31 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."
  • Acts 1:8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
  • Daniel 11:32 - But the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
Yes we are ordinary people but are meant to do extra-ordinary things. We are destined for greater things. If you think that you are meant to be like this all your life, you are dead wrong. But if you want to remain in the position you are in, you can well be.
