Suffering like a good soldier - Part 2

Image
2 Tim 3:3-4 - Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. Firstly we saw that a good solider endures suffering .  Secondly Paul says that a good solder does not get entangled with the affairs of the world.     If you would have observed , in most countries, the soldier's physical, social and medial needs are usually taken care of by the state. His housing, his food and even his future is taken care by the government.  This is because the soldier's duty to defend his country in times of war, requires absolute commitment and dedication. He has to be fully prepared and always ready. His life is also uncertain and can be killed in war.  That was a reality in Paul's days. The soldier cannot be distracted by other things in life and hence the government takes care of all (or at least most) of  his personal needs. ...

Its the time "when boys become men." In my case, I was privileged to serve as a police inspector in the police force whilst many of my contemporaries were conscripted into the army. For me it was one of the most memorable times of my life. Unfortunately for my friends in the army, it was a time of suffering and hard physical training.  In the passage, Paul likens a christian to a soldier. Not jut a soldier but a good soldier. And he highlights three features that distinguishes a good soldier from a bad one. A good solider...

Mission Trip to AP - 25 May to 3 Jun 12

Image
Eight youths from Praise Evangelical church joined me and my wife on this trip to Andhra Pradesh. In all we covered more than 1800 km of travel over land, mostly by road and train. At this time of the year the weather is hot and the temperatures exceed 50 deg C. Our shoes melted under the scourging Indian summer. Some of the team members suffered heat stroke and dehydration. In some of the meetings we were drenched in our own perspiration. In some places we had to share our rooms with insects of all shapes and sizes so much so the youths refused to sleep in the night. There were many other challenges. For some of the youths, its the first time they seen a slum and the challenges that people face to have basic needs met. "I needed to go to a toilet urgently"... "Sorry no toilets here.....Go behind the bushes." It was a cultural shock to some. But in spite of the many challenges and setbacks, we witnessed the goodness of God and His faithfulness on this trip. On ...

6th Graduation of PEC School of Ministry

Image
The graduation was successfully conducted on the 31 May 2012. 12 students graduated after 9 months months of training. The meeting was led by Ps. Daniel Lama and  some  local leaders were honored with the traditional Scarfs.  Rev. Jonathan Sharma from Baptist Church challenged the students  from the Word of God. We are indeed indebted to Rev Samuel Sharma, his wife and the board for running this training center. Those trained will now go to the fields in the NE regions of India and plant new churches for the glory of God.

Update from the field

Update from Bishop Nehemiah, our AP Coordinator "Respected Sir.. Greetings in Jesus name.. On this Monday 14-May-2012 early in the morning we reached Manipaelm village in Mahaboobnagar District. One of our Church planters Pst. Aron is working in this village. As we all know Mahaboobnagar is very back ward district. Economically and Evangelically. Education rate is very low in this district. Always people migrate to neighboring towns like Hyderabad and Bangalore . Mahaboobnagar labor force is known as 'Hard working laborers in Roads and Buildings'. Castism dominates this district and there is much opposition for the Gospel. Some year ago, when I was in CBN, while showing Jesus film in one village called Mahaboobnagar, one group came to kill us with the Kerosene tins and Axes, we left the vehicle and Film equipments and ran 14KM in the agricultural fields and whole night we walked and reached a nearby town, immediately boardedt the bus and went back to Hy...

Peace in the midst of War

Image
2 Samuel 11:7 - And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did , and how the people did , and how the war prospered .  I am sure we all have had our fair share of "bad days". Some have literally been living in a "war zone" for a long time. Just when you thought that one problem is over, another joins in sequel and no end seems in sight. Unpaid bills, unruly children, bad relationships, law suits and the list is unending. These problems often takes a toll on a person's mental, physical and spiritual being. Worries, tensions, sleepless nights, high Bp, quarrels that permutate into fights and even suicide. If you are in a leadership position, you get all sorts of people challenging your decision. Is it possible for one to be at peace when everything around him is in shatters? Is it really possible to have peace in times of war? Strangely, that is the question that David asked Uriah concerning Joab and the soldiers who were in the t...
