New every morning

Image
This beautiful sunrise was taken at 7AM from my balcony. Sometimes we take for granted or overlook some of the finer things in life. God's creation never fails to amaze me, like this awesome creation in the picture.  It reminds me of God's  continuous grace and mercy in our lives. Just like the writer in Lamentations 3:22-23 says: Because of the   Lord ’s great love   we are not consumed,  for his compassions never fail;  They are new every morning;  Great is your faithfulness . Just like the sun rises everyday without fail, God's compassion on His people are new every  morning. He is a faithful God. God's love preserves us. God's compassion renews us. God's  faithfulness leads us.

Flabbergasted and disappointed

On 22 Nov, my flight to New Delhi was in the afternoon, In the morning I asked my co-worker Dr Mike Ong, if I could get some roses for my wife. (It was my usual practise to get her, her favourite colours whenever I go to a new place. Not easy as you have hand carry, with many staring. Some even had the audacity to say, "Oh for your girl friend" 🤦🏽‍♂️ ). Mike looked surprised and and said "its not cheap here". " I need a peace offering bro", I retorted sheepishly.  🤣 Mike said he knew some florist about 30 mins away and so we walked. It was not an easy walk as we had to ascend a hill. Along the way, Mike said he needs to go to the bank and he will be back in a while. I waited for a while and since it was getting late, I decided to venture on my own to get the flowers. Lo and behold, I found the florist without any help and exactly the colours I wanted. I was so overjoyed, not for me but for her. The flor...

God's majestic handiwork

Image
Yesterday, while travelling from Kathmandu to New Delhi, I was sitting on the right side the plane window seat. I had the best view of the majestic Himalayan Range. Towering snow-capped mountains that stretched for miles, made me stare in awe and wonder at God's magnificent handiwork. It took my breath away. Psalms 8:3 - When I consider your heavens  the work of your fingers,  the moon and the stars,  which you have set in place,  what is mankind that you are mindful of them,  human beings that you care for them The God who created these picturesque is the one we worship and He says in I saiah 49:15 - “Can a mother forget the infant at her breast, walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget, I’d never forget you—never. Look, I’ve written your names on the backs of my hands.  (MSG) What an amazing God.

What a trip to Nepal

Image
I am sitting at the airport restaurant in Kathmandu, checked in and waiting for my departure to New Delhi and from there, onward to Singapore.  Just sipping and enjoying the Americano coffee and a slice of cheese cake as I reminiscent my last nine days in Nepal. It has been a incredibly tough trip but one filled with joy, great satisfaction and challenges. Tough because of the bad roads, tracks and mountain trekking that really tested my endurance and my back was sore.  Couple of knocks on the head as the vehicle danced to the tune of the undulating terrain. Days when I had terrible diarrhoea, running from one mountain toilet to another. Thank God I had Dr Mike Ong on this trip who is a medical doctor from Singapore, who attended to my condition. Times when we had to sleep on the cold floor with thin sheets of cloth, with rodents in the vicinity. Temperatures dropped to a low of 10-12 degrees centigrde in the nights. Eating the food offered by the villagers as we were up in t...

Interesting conversation with little ones

Image
We were having dinner and a few girls from the from Carmichael Girls Hostel sat behind us on the floor. This home, located in West Nepal, is the brainchild of Dr Mike Ong, to provide a decent environment and a future for under privileged kids, who otherwise would have never left their homes in the mountains in Jajarkot, Nepal.  Apparently one of them had lost her lock key to her box and they were waiting for Pst Prem to help. I decided to strike a conversation with them. I started showing them pictures of my family and they were so interested that they began to huddle around my phone.  Then on of the girls said, "Uncle, please come to our hostel". Surprisingly these girls can speak reasonable English, as they are being tutored by teachers from Singapore via zoom (another outreach project by committed Christians).   So Pst Prem and I walked over to their dorm. As I stepped in, immedia...

Transit in New Delhi

Image
I departed Singapore yesterday for New Delhi and arrived uneventfully. Thank God, I had no problems with the immigrations. My connection to Kathmandu was early this morning.  It was cool in New Delhi but the air was heavily polluted and visibility was less than 500 feet. I checked into a nearby motel and wanted to leave about 2 hrs before flight but the reception advised me to be there at least 3 hrs. I was sceptical but decided to follow his advice.  I left my motel at 3:45 AM. Managed to get at least 3 hrs of sleep. Good that I listened to the receptionist in the motel. The airport was so crowded at this time of the morning. Took almost two hours to clear immigration and custom.  Lesson learnt: If transiting through New Delhi always be there at least 3 hrs before flight no matter what time of the day.  Looking   forward  to my first landing in Kathmandu.

Helping the persecuted Christians in Pakistan

Image
As you are aware that recently we send some relief aid to the Christians in Pakistan who were affected by the Muslim persecution. Many churches and homes were destroyed.  Many of the affected families are staying with relatives or renting rooms. But those who have no means are still staying In make shift shelters. By God's grace, that we were able to raise some funds to help some of the Christian families in Jaranwala.  We thank God for this opportunity to bless the persecuted Christians in Jaranwala, Pakistan on 10 Nov. Especially when the winter is soon approaching. Special thanks to Pst Robert Haroon from UMPC and the sponsors who made this possible. "...Let them see your good works and glorify the Father in heaven"

Good News Assembly Church

Image
Yesterday Jeya and I were invited to minister at the Good News Assembly Church in Skudai, Hohor, Malaysia. This is our first visit to this church. We were invited by the founding pastor, Pst Dass. I had known pastor Dass in the 70's when he was working  in Singapore and was affiliated with Salem Chapel. He used to attend PEC also in those days. It was a joy to meet him and his wife again. after a long time. They are both in their mid 70's but still fervent for the Lord. I also met his children and his grandchildren. It was good to see how Pst Das and his family are serving God faithfully. I heard about the many challenges this pastor had gone through and yet, faithfully serving the Lord. Some of the stories are heartbreaking but their faith in the Lord is unshaken.  Oh... we forgot to take a picture with them.😔 We had a great service. There was a  sizeable   congregation. ...

The New Covenant - Life in the Spirit

Hebrews 8:10 - This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. The writer in Chapters 7-9 compares the Old covenant and the new. In particular he highlights the work of our Lord on the cross and how He established the New Covenant. Hebrews  9:12 -.... but he entered the Most Holy Place  once for all  by his own blood,  thus obtaining  eternal redemption. Jesus by His sacrifice on the  cross established the new covenant.  The writer tells us that the old covenant was found wanting.  I see three issues that was difficult in the old covenant. 1.   The continuous offering of sacrifices . Hebrews 7:27 tells us that the sacrifices were to be offered daily, not only for the people but also for the priest who is making the offering on behalf of the...
