Sunday morning service
Today I preached on the subject, "The day after the lockdown/circuit breaker”. Now that we are coming towards the end of this phase, the questions I asked myself:
- What has the lockdown or circuit breaker experience been for me?
- Were there any lockdowns in the Bible and any lessons I can learn and compare?
To my surprise I found there were many
Some examples of lockdown/circuit breakers in the Bible:
- Noah and the ark - 365 days
- Moses - 40 years in the wilderness
- Jonah – 3 days in the belly of the Fish
- Esther and her servants – 3 days of fasting and prayer
- Jesus – 40 days in the wilderness
- The disciples - In the upper room after the resurrection of Jesus
- Paul – In Prison lockdown towards the end of his life
- John at the island of Patmos
And of the lockdowns I mentioned, the outcome was welcomed or resulted in a great experience with God and manifested in manifold blessings.
- Noah - A heart of gratitude and a new generation was born.
- Moses - A deliver was raised and the nation of Israel was delivered from slavery.
- Jonah – A nation was saved in Nineveh.
- Esther – Deliverance for the nation of Israel
- Jesus – Filled with the power of the Holy Spirit
- The disciples in the upper room - Changed the world upside down
- Paul – Wrote the many epistles that we read today
- John - The Book of Revelation
The changes came because they all encountered God in a very specific way during the lockdown.
- Nations were restored
- Thousands were coming to know Jesus as Lord
- There was a tangible result, a revival and restoration
But there was one lockdown in the Bible that almost ended in a disaster; it is recorded in Joshua 6. While the whole of Jericho was destroyed, Rahab and her family wee spared. Why?
- She had a Confrontation with the living God.
- She had the Conviction that Jehovah is the living God.
- She displayed total Commitment to the Living God.
- Her Completion of the task given by the Living God.
