The walls are ever before me

Isaiah 49:16 - Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.(KJV)

God’s unfailing faithfulness

There are times in life when everything around us seems broken. The things we once depended on may have crumbled, our plans may have failed, and the future may appear uncertain. In such moments, it is easy to wonder whether God still remembers us and whether His promises will ever come to pass.

Isaiah 49:16 offers us a beautiful assurance of God’s unfailing faithfulness.

In Isaiah 49, God speaks to His people, Israel, who were experiencing distress and the consequences of their rebellion. They felt forgotten and forsaken. In verse 14, Zion declares, “The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.”

But God answers with a powerful declaration of His love and remembrance. He assures His people that He has engraved them upon the palms of His hands and that their walls are continually before Him.

What a wonderful picture of a God who never forgets His people!

1. God remembers us even when we feel forgotten

God says, “I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands.”

Engraving speaks of something permanent, something not easily erased. God was assuring Israel that they were not forgotten, even when their circumstances suggested otherwise.

Perhaps you are going through a season when you feel forgotten. Your prayers seem unanswered, your struggles continue, and the promises you once held on to appear far from reality.

Remember this: your circumstances may change, but God's faithfulness does not. His silence does not mean His absence, and a delay does not mean He has forgotten you.

The God who remembered Israel has not forgotten His people today.

2. God sees what is broken

God declares that the walls of Jerusalem are continually before Him.

Walls in ancient times represented protection, security and stability. When the walls of a city were broken down, its people were vulnerable to their enemies. Jerusalem's broken walls represented more than damaged stones; they reflected the shame, insecurity and devastation experienced by God's people.

Yet God tells them that their walls are ever before Him.

This does not mean that Jerusalem's walls were already physically rebuilt or that God considered the destruction unreal. Rather, it assures Israel that their broken condition was not beyond His attention. He saw their devastation, knew their need and had not abandoned His purpose for them.

What a comfort this is for us!

God sees the broken walls in our lives. He sees the family struggles we carry, the ministry challenges we face, the doors that have closed and the dreams that seem shattered. Nothing escapes His attention.

What is broken before us is never beyond God's sight or beyond His ability to restore.

3. God is faithful to fulfil His promises

Isaiah's message was not that Israel's restoration had already been completed, but that their present devastation would not be the end of their story. God had a purpose for His people, and He would act according to His promises.

The same truth encourages us today. We must not interpret God's faithfulness solely through what we see at this moment.

The walls are ever before me may be walls that have yet to be rebuilt, prayers that have yet to be answered and situations that have yet to change. But we can continue to trust the character of the One who has promised.

God's restoration does not always happen according to our timetable or in the manner we expect. Nevertheless, He remains faithful to His Word and His purposes. God will restore according to Hios word and His purpose.

As Numbers 23:19 reminds us, God is not a man that He should lie. What He has spoken, He is able to fulfil.

Therefore, do not allow the broken walls of today to make you doubt the faithfulness of God tomorrow.

Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it  1 Thessalonians 5:24 (KJV)

Our circumstances may change, but God's faithfulness never changes. Trust Him—not because the walls are standing, but because He is faithful!

A Word of Encouragement

Perhaps today you are looking at the broken walls in your own life. You see what has been lost, what has not worked out and what still needs to be restored.

But God sees what you cannot see. He knows the end from the beginning, and your present circumstances do not limit His power or cancel His promises.

Do not forget God's promises simply because you are facing a season of brokenness.

The God who remembered Israel is still faithful today. He sees your situation, knows your needs and remains true to His Word. Our confidence is not in the strength of our walls, but in the faithfulness of our God.

Keep trusting Him. Keep praying. Keep walking in obedience.

The walls may be broken today, but God has not forgotten you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are a faithful God who never forgets Your people. When we look at the broken walls in our lives, help us not to lose heart or become discouraged. Remind us that You see our struggles, know our needs and remain faithful to Your promises. Teach us to trust You even when we cannot see the way forward. Strengthen our faith as we wait upon You, and help us to walk in obedience and confidence in Your Word. May our lives testify to Your unfailing faithfulness and restoring grace.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

  1. Thank you, Pastor Rama, for sharing these beautiful words from Isaiah 49:16. ❤️ It’s such a comforting reminder that even when God’s people felt forgotten and forsaken, God had never forgotten them.

It reminds me of our recent Bible study on Exodus 12, After 430 years, when His appointed time came, He brought the Israelites out of Egypt in a mighty way! He is never absent; even when we feel forgotten, we are never forgotten by Him. 😇🙏🏻 ‎
