The power of words

Today I spoke on "Faith Controls the Tongue", the text being taken from James 3:1-12.

It was a message for me rather than the congregation. I realised how many times my own words could have hurt or discouraged others. And I must agree with James that I am not perfect in this area. No wonder King David realised the failure in this area and he prayed:

Psalms 19:14 - “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”

There are four key takeaways from this passage:

1.   Words have the Potential to be Destructive.

2.   Words will Positively be Judged.

3.   Words reveal the Propensity of the Heart

4.   Words have the Prospect to bring Healing

Our words can be used to destroy, divide, deceive, devalue and devastate.

OR

Our words can be used to reassure, rebuilt, restore, revive and reconcile.

Proverbs 18:21 - The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Proverbs 10:11 - The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

THE CHOICE IS OURS
