The Shadrach Home, Myanmar - A vision come true

In 2016, Praise Evangelical Church, Singapore, adopted Shadrach Home, Myanmar. Two ladies, Khaw Shin and Martha, who were trained in our Church Planters’ Program in Yangon, are running this Home in a village called Tat Yan, Northern Shan State. Currently there are 33 children, their ages ranging from 3-17 years. All of them are underprivileged kids. Some are orphans, whilst others are with single parents or from very poor homes. Most of the kids would have ended up in the drugs trade or join the resistance force, if not for the Lord and this home.

I remember meeting Sis Khaw Shin in 2016 at Myanmar Theological College when she was undergoing the church planters training. Together with Pastor John Phongshar and Bro David Kriner (a man after the heart of God and founder of MTC) we discussed about the Home and how PEC could help with the program. I believe it was God’s divine intervention that brought all of us together to fulfill His purposes on earth.

The purpose of this Home is to nurture the children in God’s love and in His ways thereby making them useful for their country and for Christian ministry.

The children were staying in a property that belongs to a Christian family who has allowed them to use it for a season. But the rooms and facilities are grossly insufficient and dilapidated. Small dormitories, no proper separation of rooms for boys and girls and only two toilets. Furthermore the Christian owner is under constant pressure from the largely non-Christian neighbourhood to stop letting a Christian-based home use the place. If that happens, the 33 children will have no place to go to.

During a mission trip in Mar 2018, the team on their return recommended that we seriously need to consider a new building for the Shadrach Home.

Also about that time there was heavy rains and the places got flooded, with water coming into the home. It was really bad. The need for a new Home was much more urgent now.

After much prayer and consultation, we bought a piece of land in Tat Yan on 30 Jun 2018 with the intention of building the Home. We thank God for our sponsors who gave generously for the purchase.

But after the land being  purchase, we were hit with a number of roadblocks. The registration and ownership of the property and funds for the building were in the forefront. The cost for the building was not a small. We have not built anything outside Singapore that cost so much. Where will the funds come from ?

More than a year lapsed and the wait was agonizing.

In late 2019, by the grace of God, we were able to resolve a number of issues.  The funds came in.  A team lead by Bro Ho and Sis Vimala, undertook to see the construction and development of the building.

Construction of the building started in early January 2020 but the Covid19 onslaught did not even spare remote Tat Yan. After some delay the building was completed in Jun 2020 to the glory of God.

We are indeed thankful to our many sponsors, especially to Bro Ho and Sis Vimala for bearing the bulk of the contribution to the finances. We are also grateful to Bro David Kriner, Pst John Phongsar for  the roles they played in seeing this vision come to a reality. We are indeed grateful to the Lord for enabling PEC to play a small part in the lives of these wonderful children. It's only because of Him, this miracle took place.

To God be the glory.
