Trip to Tangyan, Northern Shan State- 9-13 Dec
This was my last trip for the year 2019. The purpose was to firm up plans for the building of the Shadrach Home in Tangyan.
I departed on 9 Dec after my night shift at work and arrived at Yangon at about 3:30pm. Pst John Phongshar and his assistant K Phong Ram were there at the airport to receive me. The weather was pleasant.
It took us an hour to get out of Yangon to the highway that connects Yangon to Mandalay. It was a 7-8 hr drive. The weather was getting colder as wen proceeded north. All of well until we were about 8 km to Mandalay. Our car had a burst tyre as it hit a big hole in the road. It was 12:20 am. We had to change the tyre. The highway was deserted and dark.
Fortunately we were at a close distance to a gas station. While changing the tyre, the jack broke. Phong ram had to go to the nearby patrol station to borrow a jack. After changing the tyre, the battery failed. The battery just wouldn't start. Some monks from a car at the patrol station came and helped jump start using their vehicle. The weather is now freezing cold.
We left at about 1:30am. After an hour we arrived at small town Pyin Oo Lwin. We had to repair the tyres before proceeding. Shops only open at 8.00am. So we slept in the car. It was about 3.00am and freezing cold, maybe about 5-8 deg C. I did not bring warm clothes and it was a torture. The other two are snoring so loud, it was like someone was having an heart attack. So I just curled myself, "thanking God for this privilege", "prayed for all my enemies" and awaited the break of day.
At 7.00 am we had a hot bowl of noodles for breakfast at a nearby stall. Noodles never tasted so good. We repaired our tyres and proceeded on our journey.
We stopped an hour later at another town, Nawnghkio. Here our church planter Manoj has a work and wanted to visit him. We had a short service. It was a working day and only some housewives cam for the fellowship. But it was good to meet our CP and his wife. I was blessed to see and hear the work down by ou church planters in Myanmar.
The rest of the journey was uneventful. By the time we reached Tangyan, it was about 4.00 pm. Khawshin and Martha were at the hotel to greet us and it was a joy to see them a gain.
