Trip to Yangon, Myanmar - 29 Jun to 1 Jul

The purpose of the trip was to witness the opening of the 1st Church Planters Training program, sponsored by PEC. This is a six-month training program that will prepare the students in their role as church planters.

I departed on 29 Jun, Sunday and arrived Yangon at about 11AM. Pst John Phong Shah, our coordinator in Yangon, was at the airport to receive me.

That afternoon I was asked to share in a house meeting in central Yangon. About 20 people gathered for the house meeting and I shred on the John 11, the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead. In the evening Bro David Kriner and Pst Vincent arrived. David is the founder of the Myanmar Theological Center (MTC) where our training program will be held. Pst Vincent was in Yangon for another training venture in the northern part of Myanmar.  Pst John Phong Shah is the principal of the MTC.

On 30 Jun, we had the opening of the church planters training program. The program was attended by the students of MTC, the church planters and some guests. As I sat through the program, I was simply awed by the goodness of God. This was indeed a vision come true.  I first met Pst John Phong Shah in Chiang Mei in 2012, during the HI training program. We discussed the possibility of running a church planters training program in Myanmar and he was very much excited at the prospect.  We lost touch for a year and in the end of 2013 were reunited by another person in very strange circumstances. It must be God. That revived the vision for the training program. I had consultation meetings with Bro David, who without any hesitation, allowed us to use the premises of the MTC to conduct our program. Thus began the PEC-MTC partnership to fulfill the Great Commission in Myanmar.

I shared on why we are running this program and how the people in Myanmar can only be touched with the gospel by the Christians in Myanmar. It was a special service, at least for me but this is only the beginning.

That evening I took the first session for the students. It was indeed a blessing.  I returned home the next day, grateful to the Lord and humbled by His works.

Follow- up actions

  • Budget.   The monthly cost of running the program is as follows:
    • Food - $1.50 a day per student. 11 students = $495
    • Cook -  $50
    • Additional visiting Faculty - $50
    • Stationary -  $50
    • Others -  $50
    • Total = approx USD595 =Sing $750
We are short of another $50 as a potential sponsor pulled out in the last minute.

  • Training.   This is an intensive course. We need some faculty who can, at their own expense, teach some basic subjects. We need your prayer for the participants as they take on the Word. More importantly, they will have a passion to reach the villages that does not have a Christian presence.

We praise God for this privilege to serve Him in Myanmar with a group of like-minded servants. For us its another new beginning. We are extending into the fourth country. But we are only touching the tip of the ice. There is so much to be done. Myanmar is only 4% Christian. Currently there are debates in Myanmar parliament about passing anti-conversion laws. We really don’t have much time. If we believe that Jesus is coming real soon, than we must mobilize our resources and invest where it matters most -  SOULS.  Please pray and invest where it matters the most. God bless.
