Devotion - Prosperity and Success: Part 1

Image
I remember reading a mail from a local church pastor. It said something like this, "Come and attend this special service and you will find out how to become prosperous and successful in your financial life. Many have testified that they have got promotions in their work after following the principles given by this anointed man of God. God has promised us success and prosperity..." The problem with this kind of of theology is that it does not speak about the theology of suffering and carrying the cross. What really then is the measure of prosperity and success. In Singapore you are deemed successful if you have the 5Cs. i.e career, cash, car, condominium and a country club membership. Unfortunately some churches also measure success and prosperity in this manner. In the Old testament Issac was the son of promise associated with all the promises of blessings while Ismael was the son of the flesh and a castaway. But towards the end of their lives, Issac was almost blind and bed-...

Devotion - The Gift or the Atitude behind the gift

Genesis 4:2-5 - Now Abel kept flocks and Cain worked on the soil, 3 In the course of time Cain brought some fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord.4 But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favour upon Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering He did not look with favour. So Cain was angry and his face was down cast. Many times before I thought that God required a blood offering and that's why he rejected Cain's offering. It was while going through the TAFTEE course that this mater was clarified. In fact cereal offering was much acceptable under the law (Lev 2:1). What was it then that was offending on the art of Cain. The first indication is in verse 4b . The Lord looked with favour upon Abel and his offering. It is the person that God looks first an then the offering. God cares most is the attitude of the one bringing the offering. If the attitude is right , the gift will also be right. Man sees the outwar...

Jehovah Jireh

Answer to prayer: Last week Pst John Signey highlighted that the training center in Kanyakumari needed some repair work to be done and also beds were needed for the students. Currently they were all sleeping on the floor. The kitchen also needed some refurbishing. Praise God for the immediately response. A sum of $2000 was received and made in favour of the training centre. Its amazing to see how God's people respond in the time of need. Time and again God has proved His faithfulness. .. Can I doubt His tender mercies who through life has been my guide. .. p hrase in the song "All the way my Savior Leads me"

Thank God for the people who are willing to give sacrificially. The money will be used, amongst others, for the building construction of some churches in AP and repair works in the Great Commission Training Center in Kurnool. God's economy is never in recession.

Devotion - The Measure of Worship

Image
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. I love to worship God both corporately and personally. But what is the true measure of worship? Can it be measured in the first place? How often I have heard Christians say, "the worship was not good today, I did not feel the presence of God...". We forget that we are the worshipers and God is to be worshiped . It is God who must say whether the worship is good or not. For some worship and the presence of God is measured by how we "feel" in the worship service, echoing the "eros and the hedonism culture". Jesus said, "For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." - Mat 18:20. It has nothing to do with how we feel about it. In some other congregations worship is associated with noise and tempo. The louder and faster the beat, the greater the pre...
