Pentecost Sunday -The Holy Spirit
You might as well try to hear without ears or breathe without lungs, as try to live a Christian life without the Spirit of God in your heart. ― D. L. Moody
Sunday was last week but this this morning I spoke on the events in Acts 2 and how does it impacted our lives.
My text was taken from Acts 2:1-13 and I considered what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
First the importance of Preparation. The 120 were gathered in the upper room and were together in one accord.
- Acts 1:14 - These all continued with one accord in prayer
When people come together with a sincere desire for prayer, you will see the work and the manifestation of the Holy Spirit.
Second the Purpose the Holy Spirit was given to the church.
- Acts 1:8 - But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
- Acts 2:13,15 - Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”....These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning!
There is a visible difference when one is filled with the Holy Spirit.
Conclusion
When a person is filled with the Holy Spirit, he or she cannot be the same.
The Holy Spirit is given to us to help us in our infirmities.
- To make us people of power, love and sound mind.
- Filled with boldness to share the gospel.
- Filled with gifts of the Spirit to glorify the Lord and defeat the devil.
- Live a life that is different from the world
