The bush that made heads turn

Image
Exodus 3:1-3 - Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian , and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb , the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up . So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight —why the bush does not burn up.” A common phrase often heard in boys' talk, "she makes heads turn." Why do men look at a particular woman, what makes their head turn when she walks by? Well I think you may have different answers and opinions but that's not my purpose of writing this devotion. Besides, I have passed that phase in life. Of course there are some who make heads urn for the wrong reasons as well. But have you ever heard of a bush that made a man turn aside and take another good look? Well, it did happen. In the passage above, a bush, often referre...

Devotion - Keeping the Unity

Image
Eph 4: 1-3 - As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient , bearing with one another in love . Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. One of the devil's potent missile to destroy the church of God is by bringing disunity. Over the years I have seen how the devil had used this weapon in many churches, especially in my church. Distrust, backbiting, false accusations and undermining authority are some of the shrapnel of this missile. If he can only get the Christians to be engaged in tearing down one another, he would have succeeded in distracting the church from its important occupations. Worst still, Christians become the reason why many do not become followers of Jesus. That's the sad state of the church today. Realizing this pitfall, Paul pleads with the church, to keep the unity. He does this not in the capacity of an Apostle, ...

PEC Workers Monthly Meetings in AP

Image
Our workers gather monthly for prayer and updates. This meeting was held today in Hasmatpet church in Hyderabad. Due to the different locations two such meetings are held every month in AP, one in Hyderabad and the other in Rajmandry. This will enable our workers to come to a location nearer their work areas. In meetings like these, workers concerns and testimonies are shared. They also have a time of prayer and hearing the Word. Similar meetings are also held in Tamil Nadu and Orissa and the other states. We praise God for our four coordinators who oversee all the PEC work in 7 states and 2 countries. We thank God for all our prayer partners and supporters. 1 Cor 15:58 - With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don't hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort. (The Message Bible)

New work begins in Chhattisgarh

5 church planters who graduated from our training center in Kaniyakumari recently, have started church planting work in the state of Chhattisgarh. These are young men with a hungry passion to reach the lost, in the interior parts of this poor state. They are being supported by two Chinese brothers from Singapore who share the PEC's vision. Praise God for such partnership and also pray that we will see fruits in due season. Luke 10-:2 - "What a huge harvest! And how few the harvest hands. So on your knees; ask the God of the Harvest to send harvest hands - Message Bible

Devotion - A Shelter in the time of storm

Image
Psalms 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. This has been my favorite verse in the Bible. It has helped me through difficult times, in sorrow in times of trouble and in times of loneliness. The inspiration to my love for this psalm is that it is that God is not linked to the heroes of faith, like Abraham or Paul, but to Jacob, a cheater, a supplanter and a deceiver. I can't recall of Jacob of doing anything worthy of honor. Yet, "The God of Jacob is with us." That's the amazing grace of God. What an assurance, even when we are so far away from God, yet He chooses to associate himself with a sinner like me and you. That is why amongst all the names of Jesus, the one that melts my heart is that he was called the "friend of sinners." No wonder the pharisees did not like him. He mingled with the weak and the rejects of society. They run to Him for love, security and hope. What a savior. God is our refuge . God is our refuge w...

Devotion - Be prepared

Eph 5:15-20 - Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The last few days has again reminded me of how uncertain life is. A good lifestyle of keeping a healthy routine may seem to prolong life but its no grantee. life is unpredictable and something only the creator determines when our time is up. With this background its therefore necessary that we set our house in order and live in such a way that when its our time, we are ready. This passage outlines four key principles on how we live as people who are wise, people who are careful. Ver...

Funeral service for my brother Kumar

Image
Tribute to my brother Kumar. This eulogy was delivered by me at the funeral service at 1541 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach. on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 11:00am -------------------------------------------------------------- Friends, brothers and sisters in Christ, Thank you for taking time to come for this service in honor of my brother Kumar. On behalf of our families I want to thank you for your care, concern and love which you showered upon Smita and Manisha during this difficult time. I am simply overwhelmed by the support and love you all showed, which certainly lightened the burden and made this stretch of the journey more bearable, especially for Smita and Minisha. Birth and death are all part of life’s journey. King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 3 - There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens, a time to be born and a time to die, a time to mourn and a time to dance , Indeed today we mourn but we sorrow not as people without hope but as ...
