Promise verse for May - God meant It for good
Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose. That means all things—including the bad ones. Some of those hardships may come from others, while others may even be the result of our own poor decisions. Yet God, in His sovereignty, weaves everything together for our good and His glory.
The life of Joseph offers a powerful example. His story begins with a dream from God but is followed by betrayal, false accusations, and years of delay. Though he had a clear promise, everything in his life seemed to head in the opposite direction. Thrown into a pit, sold as a slave, wrongly imprisoned—Joseph’s path was filled with pain and injustice.
And yet, through it all, God was at work.
Many of us know what it’s like to receive a word or vision from God, only to face confusion and hardship instead of fulfilment. Like Joseph, we may wonder why things aren’t working out. But Scripture assures us: God’s promises cannot be cancelled by human actions. What others mean for harm, God can transform into something good.
Joseph’s brothers intended to harm him, but their actions led Joseph to Egypt, where he would eventually rise to power and save countless lives—including theirs. When they feared his retaliation, Joseph responded with grace: “You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.” His heart of forgiveness revealed a deep trust in God's sovereignty. The message is clear—God is always in control, even when others are not. Joseph speaking to his brothers
Genesis 45:7-8 - “And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you who sent me here, but God.” This affirms Joseph’s understanding of divine providence over human wrongdoing.
When we’re mistreated, it's tempting to hold onto bitterness. But Joseph chose a better way. Instead of revenge, he leaned into God's purposes. Instead of anger, he showed mercy. God calls us to respond the same way—with trust, forgiveness, and the assurance that He is working behind the scenes.
You may be in a season where God's promises feel far away. But don’t lose heart. Just as God fulfilled His word to Joseph, He will fulfil His word to you. No betrayal, delay, or disappointment can stop God’s plan. Stay faithful, stay forgiving, and stay hopeful. What was meant for evil, God can still use for your good. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) - For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. This verse encourages trust in God’s ultimate intentions, even in seasons of waiting.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness even in the midst of hardship. Help me to trust that You are working all things—good and bad—for my good. Give me the grace to forgive, the patience to wait, and the faith to keep believing in Your promises. Let my life, like Joseph’s, be a testimony to Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection Questions:
- Have you experienced situations where someone intended harm, but God brought good out of it?
- Are you in a waiting season? How can you better trust God’s timing?
- Is there someone you need to forgive today in order to let God bring healing and redemption?
